Website: https://www.gifrush.com/ Last updated: 2026-10-24 ## General FAQ **What is GifRush?** GifRush is a free online GIF toolbox with 50 tools. It converts video, images, PDFs, stickers and more to GIF, converts GIFs to MP4, PNG, APNG, ICO and other formats, and edits GIFs — resize, crop, compress, reverse, caption and more — all inside your web browser. **Do I need to install anything or create an account?** No. Every tool runs in a modern web browser on desktop or mobile. There is no sign-up, no download and no usage limit. **Is GifRush really private?** Yes. Your files are processed on your own device with browser technologies such as Canvas, Web Workers, WebCodecs and WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so there is nothing for us to store or see. **Does GifRush add a watermark?** Never. Everything you create is yours to use however you like, with no watermark or branding added. **Which browsers are supported?** Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, Android and iOS. Video output (GIF to MP4 or MOV) needs WebCodecs, available in Chrome, Edge, Safari 16.4+ and Firefox 130+. ## Supported formats | Format | Type | To GIF | From GIF | Notes | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | MP4 | Video | [MP4 to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/mp4-to-gif) | [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) | H.264 video; 5–10× smaller than GIF | | MOV (QuickTime) | Video | [MOV (QuickTime) to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) | [GIF to MOV (QuickTime)](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mov) | Apple’s video container | | WebM | Video | [WebM to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) | — | VP8/VP9 web video | | GIFV | Video | [GIFV to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gifv-to-gif) | — | Imgur’s MP4-based “GIF” | | Live Photo | Video + image | — | [GIF to Live Photo](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-live-photo) | MOV + key photo for iPhone | | MP4 with audio | Video | — | [GIF to MP4 with audio](https://www.gifrush.com/add-music-to-gif) | GIF looped over a song | | JPG | Image | [JPG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/jpg-to-gif) | — | Photos; lossy | | PNG | Image | [PNG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif) | [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) | Lossless stills with alpha | | APNG | Animated image | [APNG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif) | [GIF to APNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-apng) | Animated PNG, full alpha | | WebP | Image / animated | [WebP to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sticker-to-gif) | — | WhatsApp stickers, web images | | AVIF | Image / animated | [AVIF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/avif-to-gif) | [GIF to AVIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-avif) | AV1-based, very small | | HEIC / HEIF | Image | [HEIC / HEIF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/heic-to-gif) | [GIF to HEIC / HEIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-heif) | iPhone photos | | BMP | Image | [BMP to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/bmp-to-gif) | — | Uncompressed Windows bitmap | | TIFF | Image / multi-page | [TIFF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/tiff-to-gif) | [GIF to TIFF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-tiff) | Print, scans, archives | | ICO | Icon | — | [GIF to ICO](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-ico) | Favicons and Windows icons | | ANI | Animated cursor | [ANI to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/ani-to-gif) | — | Windows animated cursors | | MNG | Animated image | [MNG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/mng-to-gif) | — | Legacy PNG-family animation | | SVG | Vector | [SVG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/svg-to-gif) | — | Static, SMIL or CSS animation | | Lottie / .lottie | Vector animation | [Lottie / .lottie to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/lottie-to-gif) | — | After Effects (Bodymovin) exports | | Telegram .tgs | Sticker | [Telegram .tgs to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sticker-to-gif) | — | Gzipped Lottie stickers | | PDF | Document | [PDF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/pdf-to-gif) | [GIF to PDF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-pdf) | Pages ↔ frames | | Sprite sheet | Image grid | [Sprite sheet to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sprite-sheet-to-gif) | [GIF to Sprite sheet](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-sprite-sheet) | Game and pixel-art animation | | PNG frames (ZIP) | Image set | [PNG frames (ZIP) to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif) | [GIF to PNG frames (ZIP)](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-frames) | One file per frame | --- ## GIF Converter URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-converter The GifRush GIF Converter is a set of free, in-browser converters that turn more than 25 formats into GIF — video (MP4, MOV, WebM, GIFV), images (JPG, PNG, HEIC, AVIF, BMP, TIFF), vector and animation formats (SVG, Lottie, stickers, ANI, MNG) and PDF pages — and convert GIFs out to MP4, MOV, PNG, APNG, AVIF, HEIF, ICO, TIFF, PDF, sprite sheets and Live Photos. Every conversion runs on your device; files are never uploaded. ### When to convert to GIF — and when to convert away from it GIF’s superpower is compatibility: it autoplays, loops and works in virtually every browser, chat app, email client, forum and CMS without a player. Its weaknesses are size and colour — at most 256 colours per frame, no audio, 1-bit transparency and 1980s compression. Convert **to GIF** when the destination only accepts images or when you need guaranteed autoplay everywhere; keep clips short and modest in size. Convert **from GIF** when you need efficiency or features GIF lacks: [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) for social media (typically 5–10× smaller), [GIF to APNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-apng) for full alpha transparency, [GIF to AVIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-avif) for tiny stills, [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) for lossless frames, and [Add Music to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/add-music-to-gif) when it needs sound. ### How the conversions work without uploading Every converter uses technology built into modern browsers or compiled to WebAssembly. Video is decoded by the browser’s own player and re-encoded with WebCodecs; GIFs are decoded and encoded in JavaScript on a background worker with per-frame palettes and frame diffing; HEIC (libheif), AVIF encoding (libavif) and PDF rendering (pdf.js) run as WebAssembly or JavaScript libraries inside the page. The result is the same as a server-based converter — without the upload wait, the file-size cap or the privacy risk. If you’re not sure a GIF is healthy before converting it, the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester) reports its frames, timing and loop settings. --- ## GIF Editor URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-editor The GifRush GIF Editor is a collection of focused, free editing tools for animated GIFs: resize, crop, rotate and flip, trim, change speed, reverse or boomerang, set looping, add captions and freeze frames — plus effects such as colour filters, rainbow cycling, blur and pixelation, and background removal. Every edit is applied to every frame with the original timing kept, in your browser. ### Why GIFs need a GIF-aware editor Most photo editors open only the first frame of a GIF, or flatten optimised frames into garbage. A GIF-aware editor decodes every frame fully — applying each frame’s disposal method — edits them all consistently and re-encodes with each frame’s original delay. That’s what every tool here does, so animations come out exactly as they went in, apart from your change. Edits stack nicely: a typical workflow is [trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) → [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) → [resize](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) → [add text](https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif) → [compress](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif). Do geometric edits before captions so text stays sharp, and compression last. ### Timing, looping and effects Timing edits change how a GIF feels: the [GIF Speed Changer](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer) respects the 20 ms minimum browsers enforce, [Reverse GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/reverse-gif) makes seamless boomerangs, and the [GIF Looper](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-looper) controls whether it repeats. For a different look, apply [filters](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-filters) or a [rainbow cycle](https://www.gifrush.com/rainbow-gif); to hide details, [blur or pixelate](https://www.gifrush.com/blur-gif) an area; and to isolate the subject, use the [background remover](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-background-remover). --- ## All GIF Tools URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tools This is the complete directory of GifRush’s free GIF tools: makers (from images, video, your screen or sprite sheets), converters to and from more than 25 formats, editors and effects, and utilities to compress, repair, analyse and pause GIFs. Every tool runs in your browser with no uploads, sign-up or watermark. ### Where to start To **make** a GIF, use the [GIF Maker](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-maker) (images or video), the [GIF Recorder](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder) (your screen or webcam) or the [Long GIF Maker](https://www.gifrush.com/long-gif-maker) for clips up to five minutes. To **change format**, browse the [GIF Converter](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-converter). To **change the GIF itself**, open the [GIF Editor](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-editor) tools. Before sharing, the [GIF Compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) gets files under upload limits, the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester) checks frames, timing and size limits, and [Fix GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/fix-gif) repairs damaged or misbehaving files. --- ## GIF Maker URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-maker Category: Create GIFs GifRush’s GIF Maker creates animated GIFs from either a set of images (PNG, JPG, WebP, HEIC) or a video clip (MP4, WebM, MOV). Choose the frames or the part of the video, set the speed, size and looping, and download a GIF that’s ready for chat, social media or the web — all processed in your browser, with no watermark. ### How to use GIF Maker 1. **Choose your source** — Pick “Images or photos” to animate stills, or “A video clip” to cut a GIF from a video. 2. **Add files and adjust** — Drop your files, then set frame order and delay, or the clip’s start, end, frame rate and width. 3. **Create and download** — Press Create GIF (or Convert to GIF), preview the loop and download it. ### Images or video: which should you start from? Start from **images** when you already have the individual frames: a set of product photos, a before/after pair, hand-drawn animation cells or screenshots of a process. Each image becomes one frame, and you decide exactly how long it stays on screen. For a single-format batch you can also use the dedicated [JPG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/jpg-to-gif) or [HEIC to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/heic-to-gif) converters. Start from **video** when the motion already exists — a reaction clip, a screen recording or a phone video. The maker samples the clip at the frame rate you choose (10–15 fps is ideal for most GIFs). For clips longer than 30 seconds, switch to the [Long GIF Maker](https://www.gifrush.com/long-gif-maker); to capture something happening on your screen right now, use the [GIF Recorder](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder). ### How to make a GIF that looks good and stays small GIF stores at most 256 colours per frame and compresses far less efficiently than modern video, so size is driven by three things: pixel dimensions, number of frames and how much changes between frames. Keeping the width around 480 px and the frame rate at 10–15 fps gives a sharp, smooth GIF that usually stays under a few megabytes. Once you have your GIF, you can fine-tune it with the other tools: [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) away borders, [add a caption](https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif), [change the speed](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer) or run it through the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) if it needs to fit an upload limit. ### Features - **Two ways to create:** Animate a stack of photos or turn any short video into a looping GIF. - **Full timing control:** Frame delays from 20 ms to 5 s, or 5–30 fps for video. - **Smart, small output:** Per-frame palettes and frame diffing keep colours rich and files light. - **Private and free:** Nothing is uploaded, nothing is watermarked, nothing to install. ### Key facts - Inputs: PNG, JPG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, MP4, WebM, MOV - Frames from images: Up to 200 - Video clip length: Up to 30 s (5 min with Long GIF Maker) - Output: Animated GIF, loops forever or plays once - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make an animated GIF for free?** Open the GIF Maker, choose images or a video, drop in your files and set the timing and size. Click Create GIF and download the result. There is no sign-up, cost or watermark. **Can I make a GIF from photos on my phone?** Yes. The GIF Maker works in mobile browsers. Pick photos from your gallery — including iPhone HEIC photos — arrange them and create the GIF directly on your phone. **What is the best size for a GIF?** For chat and social posts, 480 px wide at 10–15 fps is a good balance of quality and file size. Use smaller sizes, like 128 px, for emoji and stickers. **Is it free, and is there a watermark?** It is completely free with no sign-up, no usage limits and no watermark on the output. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Images to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif Category: Create GIFs The Images to GIF maker combines several PNG, JPG, WebP, HEIC or GIF images into one animated GIF. Put the images in order, set how long each frame shows (from 20 ms to 5 seconds), choose the output size and fit, and download — everything happens in your browser. ### How to use Images to GIF 1. **Add images** — Drop two or more images, or click to pick them. Add more at any time. 2. **Arrange and time** — Reorder frames, set the frame delay, output width and fit mode. 3. **Create the GIF** — Click Create GIF, preview the animation and download it. ### Choosing frame timing for a photo GIF The frame delay decides the feel of the animation. **Slideshows** read best at 1–2 seconds per image so viewers can take each one in. **Stop-motion and flip-book** animations need 80–200 ms per frame to look like movement. **Blinks and before/after reveals** often work with two frames at 500–800 ms each. Every frame uses the same delay here; if you need different timings for different frames later, you can [change the speed](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer) of the finished GIF or [trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) frames you no longer want. ### Mixing image sizes and formats The GIF takes its shape from your first image. Other images are either letterboxed (Fit) so nothing is cut off, or cropped (Fill) so they cover the whole frame. If the first image isn’t the shape you want, move a better-shaped image to the front, or [crop the finished GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif). Formats can be mixed freely — a PNG logo, a JPG photo and an iPhone HEIC shot can all go in one GIF. Format-specific pages such as [JPG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/jpg-to-gif), [BMP to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/bmp-to-gif) and [HEIC to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/heic-to-gif) explain the quirks of each format, and the [GIF Maker](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-maker) adds video as a source too. ### Features - **Reorder frames:** Move frames earlier or later and remove any you don’t need. - **Fit or fill:** Letterbox mixed sizes on a background colour, or crop them to fill. - **Transparency kept:** Transparent PNGs stay transparent when the background is set to transparent. - **Up to 200 frames:** Build anything from a two-frame blink to a long slideshow. ### Key facts - Input: PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, BMP, HEIC, TIFF - Frames: 2–200 images - Frame delay: 20 ms – 5 s - Output width: 50–1200 px - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make a GIF from photos?** Open Images to GIF, drop in your photos, put them in order with the arrow buttons, set the frame delay and size, and click Create GIF. Download the result when it appears. **Can I use images of different sizes?** Yes. The output size follows your first image. Choose Fit to letterbox other images on a background colour, or Fill to crop them so they cover the whole frame. **Do transparent PNGs stay transparent?** Yes. Set the background to Transparent and fully transparent areas are preserved. GIF supports on/off transparency, so soft semi-transparent edges become either solid or clear. --- ## Long GIF Maker URL: https://www.gifrush.com/long-gif-maker Category: Create GIFs The Long GIF Maker converts video clips of up to 5 minutes into a single animated GIF — far beyond the 15–30 second limit of most GIF makers. Frames are streamed straight into the encoder as they are captured, so memory stays low; it defaults to 8 fps at 360 px wide to keep long GIFs a manageable size. ### How to use Long GIF Maker 1. **Add a video** — Drop an MP4, WebM or MOV file. The first 60 seconds are selected to start with. 2. **Set the range** — Choose start and end (up to 5 minutes apart), the frame rate and width. 3. **Convert** — Press Convert to GIF. Progress shows as frames are captured and encoded. ### Why long GIFs get so big — and how to keep them in check A GIF stores every frame as a separate image, so file size grows linearly with duration: double the length, double the size. A 2-minute clip at 15 fps is 1,800 frames. The levers that matter most are **frame rate** (8 fps instead of 15 almost halves the size), **width** (360 px instead of 480 px cuts it by roughly 40%), and **how much the picture changes** — talking-head or screen-recording footage compresses far better than handheld action. If the result is still too large for where you want to post it, run it through the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) with frame dropping, or consider whether the destination accepts video: [converting the GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) typically makes it 5–10× smaller. ### Long GIF vs short GIF vs video For anything under 30 seconds the regular [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) tool gives finer control with higher default quality. Long GIFs make sense where only images are allowed — forums, some messaging apps, documentation platforms and email newsletters — or when you need a self-contained animation that autoplays everywhere without a video player. To capture a long sequence directly from your screen rather than from a file, use the [GIF Recorder](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder), which records up to 60 seconds straight to GIF. ### Features - **5-minute clips:** Ten times the 30-second limit of the standard Video to GIF tool. - **Streaming encoding:** Frames go to the encoder as they are captured, so long GIFs don’t exhaust memory. - **Size-aware defaults:** 8 fps and 360 px by default — smooth enough, small enough. - **Frame diffing:** Static backgrounds cost almost nothing, which matters most in long GIFs. ### Key facts - Max length: 5 minutes per GIF - Default settings: 8 fps, 360 px wide - Frame rate range: 5–30 fps - Typical size: 1 minute ≈ 3–15 MB depending on motion - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **Is there a maximum length for a GIF?** The GIF format itself has no duration limit. The practical limits are file size and memory. This tool supports clips up to 5 minutes by streaming frames to the encoder instead of holding them all at once. **How big will a 1-minute GIF be?** At 8 fps and 360 px wide, a minute of footage is usually 3–15 MB. Static scenes such as screen recordings land at the low end; fast camera motion at the high end. **Can I upload long GIFs to social media?** Check each platform’s size limit: for example X (Twitter) accepts GIFs up to 15 MB and Discord free uploads up to 10 MB. Many platforms convert GIFs to video anyway, so uploading an MP4 may give better quality. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Recorder URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder Category: Create GIFs The GIF Recorder captures your screen, a single window, a browser tab or your webcam and writes it straight to an animated GIF — no software to install. Choose a frame rate (5–20 fps) and maximum width, press Start, and stop whenever you like (up to 60 seconds); frames are encoded as they are recorded, entirely on your device. ### How to use GIF Recorder 1. **Choose what to record** — Select Screen (screen, window or tab) or Webcam, then set the frame rate and width. 2. **Start recording** — Press Start recording and choose what to share in your browser’s prompt. 3. **Stop and download** — Press Stop and make GIF. Your GIF appears a moment later, ready to download. ### Tips for crisp screen-recording GIFs Screen recordings compress extremely well as GIFs because most of the screen stays still, and our encoder only stores the pixels that change between frames. To keep them sharp, record a **single window or tab** rather than the whole screen, close notifications, and use 8–12 fps — UI movements still look smooth at that rate. Afterwards you can [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) to the area that matters, [trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) the start and end, and [add a caption](https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif) or [blur](https://www.gifrush.com/blur-gif) any private information such as email addresses before sharing. ### Privacy and browser support Recording uses the browser’s standard screen-capture and camera permissions: nothing is captured until you approve the prompt, and the browser shows an indicator while recording. The video never leaves your device — frames are turned into a GIF locally and discarded when you close the page. Screen recording works in desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Mobile browsers generally only allow the webcam. If you already have a recording as a video file, convert it with [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) or the [Long GIF Maker](https://www.gifrush.com/long-gif-maker) instead. ### Features - **Screen, window or tab:** Uses your browser’s built-in screen sharing — record exactly what you choose. - **Webcam with countdown:** A 3-second countdown gives you time to get ready. - **Real-time speed:** Frames are timed against the clock, so playback matches what happened. - **Encodes while recording:** Your GIF is ready seconds after you press Stop. ### Key facts - Sources: Entire screen, app window, browser tab, webcam - Max duration: 60 seconds - Frame rate: 5–20 fps - Audio: Not recorded (GIF has no sound) - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I record my screen as a GIF?** Open the GIF Recorder, choose Screen, press Start recording and pick the screen, window or tab to share. Press Stop and make GIF when you are done and download the result. **Do I need to install anything?** No. Recording uses screen-capture features built into modern browsers. There is no extension or app to install. **Can I record sound?** No. GIF is an image format and cannot contain audio. To pair an animation with sound, use Add Music to GIF, which produces an MP4 video with an audio track. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Sprite Sheet to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/sprite-sheet-to-gif Category: Create GIFs Sprite Sheet to GIF slices a sprite sheet image into equal frames and plays them back as an animated GIF. Enter the number of columns and rows (a grid overlay shows how the sheet will be cut), how many frames to use and the frame rate; frames are read left to right, top to bottom — ideal for previewing or sharing game and pixel-art animations. ### How to use Sprite Sheet to GIF 1. **Upload the sheet** — Drop a PNG (or WebP/JPG) sprite sheet laid out in a regular grid. 2. **Describe the grid** — Set columns, rows and frames to use; check the overlay lines up with your sprites. 3. **Animate** — Pick the frame rate and output width, then convert and download the GIF. ### Getting the grid right A sprite sheet only animates cleanly when every cell is the same size. Divide the sheet’s width by the number of columns and its height by the number of rows — the tool shows the resulting frame size. If the overlay lines cut through your characters, the column or row count is off; if the sheet has a margin or uneven spacing, [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) it to the grid first. Frames are read row by row. If your sheet stores animations in columns instead, rotate it 90° first, or rearrange it. The reverse direction is just as easy: [GIF to Sprite Sheet](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-sprite-sheet) packs any GIF into a sheet plus JSON frame data for game engines. ### Pixel art without blur Pixel art looks best at its native size or at whole-number multiples. Keep the output width equal to the frame width, then enlarge the finished GIF with [Resize GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) at 200% or 400% if you need it bigger. Typical sprite animations run at 8–12 fps, which matches the hand-animated feel of most games. ### Features - **Live grid overlay:** See exactly where the sheet will be cut before you convert. - **Partial last row:** Use fewer frames than cells when the last row isn’t full. - **Transparency kept:** Transparent sprite backgrounds stay transparent in the GIF. - **Exact timing:** 1–50 fps with drift-free frame delays. ### Key facts - Input: PNG, WebP, JPG, GIF sprite sheets - Grid: Up to 64 × 64 cells - Frame order: Left to right, top to bottom - Frame rate: 1–50 fps - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I turn a sprite sheet into a GIF?** Upload the sheet, enter its number of columns and rows, set how many frames to use and the frame rate, then click Convert to GIF and download the animation. **What if my sprite sheet has spacing between frames?** This tool assumes frames touch edge to edge. Crop away outer margins first; sheets with gaps between every frame need to be repacked without spacing. **Will the transparent background be kept?** Yes. Fully transparent pixels stay transparent. Semi-transparent pixels become fully solid or fully clear, because GIF transparency is on/off. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Combiner URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-combiner Category: Create GIFs The GIF Combiner merges up to 20 GIFs (or still images) into a single animated GIF in one of three layouts: one after another, side by side, or stacked vertically. Sequence mode plays each GIF in turn at the first GIF’s size; side-by-side and stacked modes play them simultaneously, looping shorter GIFs until the longest one finishes. ### How to use GIF Combiner 1. **Add GIFs** — Drop two or more GIFs (images work too). Reorder or remove them as needed. 2. **Pick a layout** — One after another, side by side, or stacked — plus a background colour for letterboxing. 3. **Combine** — Click Combine GIFs and download the merged animation. ### Sequence vs side-by-side Use **one after another** to build a compilation or a multi-step tutorial: each GIF plays in full before the next begins, so the result is as long as all inputs added together. Use **side by side** or **stacked** for comparisons — before/after edits, two takes of the same move, or a product shown from two angles — where viewers should see both at once. In side-by-side mode, the combined GIF lasts as long as the longest input, and shorter GIFs loop to fill the time. If one GIF is much longer, [trim it](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) first, or [change its speed](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer) so both finish together for a perfect loop. ### Keeping the merged GIF manageable Merging adds frames and pixels, so combined GIFs grow quickly. Resize inputs to similar dimensions beforehand with [Resize GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif), and run the result through the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) if it needs to fit an upload limit. To add a title card between clips, make it as an image — or with [Add Text to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif) — and drop it into the list. ### Features - **Three layouts:** Sequential playlist, horizontal comparison or vertical stack. - **Synchronised timing:** Side-by-side GIFs keep their own speeds, merged on one timeline. - **Mixed sizes:** GIFs are scaled to match, with letterboxing where shapes differ. - **Up to 20 inputs:** Build reaction compilations or step-by-step tutorials. ### Key facts - Inputs: 2–20 GIFs or images - Layouts: Sequence, horizontal, vertical - Sizing: Matches the first GIF - Frame limit: 1,500 combined frames - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I combine two GIFs into one?** Drop both GIFs into the GIF Combiner, choose “One after another” or “Side by side”, and click Combine GIFs. The merged GIF downloads as a single file. **Can I put two GIFs side by side?** Yes. Choose “Side by side” to place them horizontally or “Stacked” to place one above the other. Both play at the same time. **What happens if the GIFs are different sizes?** Everything is scaled to match the first GIF — its size in sequence mode, its height side by side, or its width when stacked — with a background colour filling any gaps. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Video to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF GifRush’s Video to GIF converter turns an MP4, WebM or MOV clip into a looping animated GIF directly in your browser. Choose the start and end time, a frame rate between 5 and 30 fps and an output width, then download the GIF — the video is never uploaded. ### How to use Video to GIF 1. **Add your video** — Drop an MP4, WebM or MOV file onto the page, or click to choose one. 2. **Trim and size it** — Set the start and end time, the frame rate and the output width. 3. **Convert and download** — Press Convert to GIF, preview the result and download it. ### Choosing frame rate, width and quality Video is usually recorded at 24–60 fps, but GIFs rarely need more than 10–15 fps: motion still looks smooth and the file is a fraction of the size. Width matters just as much — 480 px is plenty for chat apps and social feeds, while 320 px suits reactions and stickers. The **Smaller file** quality setting reduces colours slightly and reuses near-identical pixels between frames. If you need a specific format guide, see [MP4 to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/mp4-to-gif) for phone videos and [GIFV to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gifv-to-gif) for Imgur links. Clips longer than 30 seconds belong in the [Long GIF Maker](https://www.gifrush.com/long-gif-maker). ### After converting Most finished GIFs benefit from one more step: [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) to the action, [add a caption](https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif) for reaction GIFs, or [compress](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) to fit an upload limit. If you want the opposite — a GIF turned into a small, shareable video — use [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4). ### Features - **Precise trimming:** Set start and end to a tenth of a second, or grab the current playhead. - **Frame-rate control:** From 5 fps for tiny files to 30 fps for buttery motion. - **Smart encoding:** Per-frame palettes and frame diffing keep colours rich and files lean. - **Private by design:** Frames are captured and encoded on your device — nothing is uploaded. ### Key facts - Input: MP4, WebM, MOV and other formats your browser can play - Output: Animated GIF, loops forever - Frame rate: 5–30 fps - Max clip length: 30 seconds (5 minutes with Long GIF Maker) - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a video to a GIF?** Open Video to GIF, drop in your video, set the start and end times, choose a frame rate and width, then click Convert to GIF. The GIF is created in your browser and can be downloaded immediately. **What frame rate should I use for a GIF?** 10–15 fps is the sweet spot for most GIFs: motion looks smooth and the file stays small. Use 20–30 fps for fast action, or 5–8 fps for reaction GIFs where file size matters most. **Why is my GIF larger than the video?** GIF stores up to 256 colours per frame and compresses far less efficiently than modern video codecs. Shorter clips, a lower frame rate and a smaller width reduce GIF size the most. **Can I convert MOV files from an iPhone?** Yes, as long as your browser can play the file. Safari plays iPhone HEVC MOV files; Chrome and Edge play most H.264 MOV files. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## MP4 to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/mp4-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF MP4 to GIF converts an MP4 (or M4V) video into an animated GIF without uploading it anywhere. Select up to 30 seconds of the video, choose the frame rate (5–30 fps) and width, and the converter samples the frames with your browser’s own video decoder and encodes them into a looping GIF on your device. ### How to use MP4 to GIF 1. **Drop your MP4** — Choose an MP4 or M4V file from your computer or phone. 2. **Pick the moment** — Play the video and set start and end, or use “Start/End at playhead”. 3. **Convert** — Choose frame rate, width and quality, then click Convert to GIF. ### MP4 vs GIF: what changes when you convert MP4 is a modern video container, usually holding H.264 video that can display millions of colours and compresses motion very efficiently. GIF is a 1987 image format limited to 256 colours per frame, with no sound. Converting MP4 to GIF therefore drops the audio and reduces colours — which our encoder handles by building a separate optimised palette for every frame, so skin tones and gradients survive far better than with a single global palette. The trade-off is size: a GIF is typically several times larger than the MP4 it came from. That’s why it pays to keep clips short and use 10–15 fps. If you only need to share a moving clip and the destination accepts video, the reverse conversion — [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) — is often the better choice. ### Common MP4 sources Phone videos (Android and iPhone “Most Compatible” mode) are H.264 MP4 and convert in every browser. iPhone “High Efficiency” videos are HEVC in a .mov file; Safari plays these natively, and you can also use [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) with any MOV. Screen recordings saved as MP4 convert particularly well — or skip the file and capture straight to GIF with the [GIF Recorder](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder). For clips longer than 30 seconds, the [Long GIF Maker](https://www.gifrush.com/long-gif-maker) handles up to five minutes. Imgur’s .gifv links are MP4s under the hood — see [GIFV to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gifv-to-gif). ### Features - **Any MP4 your browser plays:** H.264 everywhere; HEVC and AV1 where the browser supports them. - **Frame-accurate trimming:** Seek to the exact frame you want to start and end on. - **Three quality levels:** High, Medium or Smaller file to balance sharpness and size. - **Streamed encoding:** Frames are encoded as they’re captured for fast, low-memory conversion. ### Key facts - Input: MP4, M4V (H.264, HEVC, AV1 where supported) - Clip length: Up to 30 seconds - Frame rate: 5–30 fps - Audio: Dropped — GIF has no sound - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert MP4 to GIF without losing quality?** Use the High quality setting, keep the original width (or close to it) and a frame rate of 15–30 fps. Some colour reduction is unavoidable because GIF allows 256 colours per frame, but per-frame palettes keep it subtle. **Is there a file size limit for the MP4?** No upload means no upload limit. Very large files simply take a little longer to open. Only the part you select (up to 30 seconds) is converted. **Does the GIF keep the sound from my MP4?** No. GIF is an image format and cannot hold audio. If you need sound, keep it as MP4 or use Add Music to GIF to pair an animation with audio as a video. --- ## GIFV to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gifv-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF A .gifv is not an image file: it is Imgur’s name for a short, silent MP4 or WebM video served in place of a GIF. To convert GIFV to GIF, save the underlying video (change “.gifv” to “.mp4” in the Imgur link and download it), then drop it here — the converter turns it into a real animated GIF you can use anywhere GIFs are accepted. ### How to use GIFV to GIF 1. **Get the video** — Open the Imgur link, replace “.gifv” with “.mp4” in the address bar and save the video. 2. **Drop it here** — Add the .mp4 (or .webm / .gifv file) and set the start, end, frame rate and width. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to GIF and download a genuine .gif file. ### What exactly is a GIFV? Imgur introduced “GIFV” in 2014 to cut bandwidth: instead of serving huge animated GIFs, it serves the same animation as an MP4 (or WebM) video that autoplays, loops and has no sound. The .gifv address is actually a small web page wrapping that video, which is why saving it with “Save image as” doesn’t give you a GIF. Because the content is video, it’s typically 5–10× smaller than an equivalent GIF. Converting back to GIF is useful when you need a real image — for a forum signature, a chat app that only autoplays GIFs, or a slide deck — but expect a bigger file. Keep the width modest and, if needed, run the result through the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif). ### Downloading the video behind a GIFV link For an Imgur link ending in .gifv, replace the extension with .mp4 and open it: your browser shows the raw video, which you can save with right-click → Save video as. That MP4 converts exactly like any other in [MP4 to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/mp4-to-gif). If you’d rather keep the small video form, it already is one — there’s nothing to convert; and for turning ordinary GIFs into compact videos, use [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4). ### Features - **Real GIF output:** Works in apps and forums that reject video but accept GIFs. - **Full clip by default:** Short GIFV loops are selected in full automatically. - **Size control:** Choose width and frame rate to keep the GIF light. - **No upload:** The video is converted on your device. ### Key facts - GIFV is: An MP4/WebM video, not an image format - Created by: Imgur (2014) - Input: .gifv, .mp4, .webm - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **What is a GIFV file?** GIFV is a name Imgur uses for a short looping MP4 or WebM video shown in place of a GIF. It looks like a GIF but is a video, so it’s smaller and smoother. **How do I download a GIFV as a GIF?** Change “.gifv” to “.mp4” in the Imgur address, save the video, then drop it into this converter and click Convert to GIF. **Why is the GIF bigger than the GIFV?** GIF compresses animation much less efficiently than MP4 video. Lowering the width and frame rate, or using the Smaller file quality setting, reduces the size. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## JPG to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/jpg-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF JPG to GIF converts JPEG photos into GIF: drop one JPG for a static GIF, or several to combine them into an animated GIF slideshow. Set the order, frame delay and output width; photos are reduced to GIF’s 256-colour palette with a custom palette per frame, so they keep as much tone as the format allows. ### How to use JPG to GIF 1. **Add JPGs** — Drop one or more .jpg / .jpeg photos. 2. **Arrange** — Reorder photos, then set the delay per photo and the output width. 3. **Convert** — Click Create GIF and download your GIF. ### Should you convert a single JPG to GIF? For a single still photo, GIF is rarely the best format: JPG stores photographs at a fraction of the size with smoother colour. Converting makes sense when a platform only accepts GIF — some avatar uploaders, legacy CMSs and email tools — or when the image will become part of an animation later. Where GIF shines is turning **several** JPGs into a moving sequence: product spins, before/after reveals, time-lapses or a mini slideshow. For a quick reveal use two frames at 600–800 ms; for a flip-book effect, 100–150 ms per frame. ### Getting the best quality from photos Photos with smooth gradients (skies, skin) are the hardest content for a 256-colour format. Keeping the output width moderate (480–800 px) helps, and our encoder picks a fresh palette for every frame. If the final GIF is too heavy, try the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif); if it only needs to move rather than be a GIF, [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) gives far smoother gradients. Working with iPhone photos? Use [HEIC to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/heic-to-gif). Mixed formats are fine in the general [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif) tool, and [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) converts frames back to lossless stills. ### Features - **Still or animated:** One photo makes a static GIF; several make an animation. - **Per-frame palettes:** Each photo gets its own optimised 256 colours. - **Correct orientation:** Phone photos are rotated according to their EXIF data. - **Mix in other formats:** PNG, WebP or HEIC images can join the same GIF. ### Key facts - Input: JPG, JPEG, JFIF (other images too) - Colours: Up to 256 per frame - Frames: Up to 200 photos - Output: Static or animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a JPG to a GIF?** Drop the JPG into JPG to GIF, set the width and click Create GIF. For an animation, add several JPGs, put them in order and choose how long each one shows. **Will converting JPG to GIF reduce quality?** Slightly. GIF supports 256 colours per frame, while JPG supports millions, so smooth gradients may show subtle banding. Per-frame palettes keep this to a minimum. **Can I make a GIF from multiple JPGs?** Yes. Add up to 200 JPGs, reorder them, set the frame delay and create an animated GIF. --- ## BMP to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/bmp-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF BMP to GIF converts Windows bitmap (.bmp) images into GIF — typically shrinking them dramatically, because BMP usually stores pixels uncompressed while GIF uses lossless LZW compression. Convert one bitmap to a static GIF, or add several to build an animated GIF with your own frame timing. ### How to use BMP to GIF 1. **Add bitmaps** — Drop one or more .bmp files. 2. **Arrange** — For an animation, order the frames and set the delay. 3. **Convert** — Click Create GIF and download. ### Why BMP files are so large BMP is Windows’ native bitmap format. Most BMPs store every pixel’s colour directly with no compression, so a 1920×1080 24-bit image takes about 6 MB regardless of what it shows. GIF compresses pixel runs with LZW, so screenshots, diagrams and line art often end up a small fraction of the original. For images with **256 colours or fewer** — old game sprites, icons, UI captures and charts — the conversion is completely lossless. Full-colour photos are reduced to 256 colours per frame; for those, PNG or JPG are usually better still-image targets, and GIF makes the most sense when you want animation. ### From bitmap frames to animation Many older tools and games export animations as numbered BMP frames. Add them all at once — they’re sorted in the order you select them, and you can reorder with the arrow buttons. If your frames are already packed into one image grid, use [Sprite Sheet to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sprite-sheet-to-gif) instead. For other formats, see [JPG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/jpg-to-gif) and [TIFF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/tiff-to-gif), or mix anything in [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif). ### Features - **Big size savings:** Uncompressed bitmaps often shrink by 70–95%. - **Lossless for simple art:** Icons, diagrams and pixel art with ≤256 colours convert without any loss. - **Animated sequences:** Turn numbered bitmap frames into an animation. - **Local processing:** Files never leave your computer. ### Key facts - Input: BMP / DIB (1, 4, 8, 16, 24, 32-bit) - Compression: BMP: usually none → GIF: LZW - Lossless when: The image has 256 colours or fewer - Output: Static or animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert BMP to GIF?** Drop your BMP file into this tool, choose the output width and click Create GIF. Add several BMPs to make an animated GIF. **Is BMP to GIF conversion lossless?** It is lossless when the bitmap uses 256 colours or fewer. Full-colour bitmaps are reduced to the best 256 colours for each frame. **Why is my GIF so much smaller than the BMP?** BMP files are usually uncompressed, while GIF uses LZW compression. Images with flat colours, like screenshots and diagrams, compress especially well. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## HEIC to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/heic-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF HEIC to GIF converts iPhone and iPad photos saved in HEIC/HEIF format into GIF, in any browser. Safari decodes HEIC natively; in Chrome, Edge and Firefox the tool loads a WebAssembly build of the libheif decoder, so the photos never leave your device. Add one photo for a still GIF or several to create an animation. ### How to use HEIC to GIF 1. **Add HEIC photos** — Drop .heic or .heif files from your iPhone, iPad or Mac. 2. **Arrange** — Reorder the photos and set the delay and width. 3. **Convert** — Click Create GIF and download. ### What is HEIC, and why won’t it open everywhere? HEIC is Apple’s name for photos stored in the HEIF container using HEVC (H.265) compression. iPhones have saved photos this way by default since iOS 11 because it takes roughly half the space of JPG at similar quality. Support outside Apple’s ecosystem is patchy, largely because of HEVC patent licensing — which is why many websites and Windows apps can’t open .heic files. This converter sidesteps that: it uses the browser’s own decoder where available and otherwise a WebAssembly build of the open-source libheif library, all on your device. Going the other way, [GIF to HEIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-heif) exports a frame as a HEIF image. ### Animating iPhone photos Burst photos and sequences shot a second or two apart make great GIFs: drop them in order, set 100–200 ms per frame for motion or 1 s for a slideshow, and keep the width around 480–720 px. If the GIF comes out large, the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) can trim it down. Got a Live Photo or video instead? Export it as a video and use [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif); to go from GIF to an iPhone Live Photo, try [GIF to Live Photo](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-live-photo). ### Features - **Works in every browser:** Native decoding in Safari, a WebAssembly decoder elsewhere. - **Burst-friendly:** Turn a burst of shots into a fluid animation. - **Correct orientation:** Rotation metadata from the camera is respected. - **On-device:** Photos are decoded locally and never uploaded. ### Key facts - Input: .heic, .heif (HEVC-coded HEIF) - Decoder: Native (Safari) or libheif WebAssembly - Frames: Up to 200 photos - Output: Static or animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert HEIC to GIF?** Drop your HEIC photos into this tool, arrange them and click Create GIF. One photo creates a still GIF; several create an animation. **Why can’t my computer open HEIC files?** HEIC uses HEVC compression, which many apps and browsers don’t support due to licensing. This tool decodes HEIC itself, so it works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. **Are my iPhone photos uploaded?** No. Decoding and GIF creation both happen in your browser; the photos never leave your device. **Is it free, and is there a watermark?** It is completely free with no sign-up, no usage limits and no watermark on the output. --- ## AVIF to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/avif-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF AVIF to GIF converts AV1-based AVIF images into GIF so they work in older apps, email clients and platforms that don’t accept AVIF. Animated AVIFs keep their frames and timing where your browser supports the WebCodecs ImageDecoder API (Chrome, Edge and recent Firefox); elsewhere, the first frame is converted to a still GIF. ### How to use AVIF to GIF 1. **Add an AVIF** — Drop a .avif file — still or animated. 2. **Adjust** — Set speed (animated) or display time (still), plus output width and quality. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to GIF and download. ### AVIF vs GIF AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) was published by the Alliance for Open Media in 2019. It stores images with the AV1 video codec, supporting millions of colours, HDR, full alpha transparency and animation — at a small fraction of a GIF’s size. GIF, by contrast, works literally everywhere, including old software and most email clients. Converting AVIF to GIF trades efficiency for compatibility: expect the GIF to be noticeably larger and limited to 256 colours per frame. To go the other way and get a modern, compact still, use [GIF to AVIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-avif). ### If only the first frame converts Reading the individual frames of an animated AVIF requires the WebCodecs ImageDecoder API. If your browser lacks it, you’ll get a single-frame GIF — open the page in Chrome or Edge to convert the full animation. Similar modern formats are covered by [Sticker to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sticker-to-gif) (animated WebP) and [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif) (APNG and others). ### Features - **Animated AVIF support:** Reads every frame and its duration via ImageDecoder. - **Transparency kept:** AVIF alpha becomes GIF transparency. - **Speed control:** Play the animation faster or slower than the original. - **No upload:** Decoded with your browser’s built-in AV1 decoder. ### Key facts - AVIF support: Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16+ - Animated frames: Chrome, Edge, recent Firefox (ImageDecoder) - Transparency: Kept (1-bit in GIF) - Output: Static or animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert AVIF to GIF?** Drop the AVIF file into this tool, adjust the width and quality, and click Convert to GIF. Animated AVIFs keep their animation in Chrome, Edge and recent Firefox. **Can animated AVIF be converted to an animated GIF?** Yes, in browsers with the ImageDecoder API. The tool reads every frame with its original duration and rebuilds the animation as a GIF. **Why is the GIF larger than the AVIF?** AVIF uses the AV1 codec, which is far more efficient than GIF’s LZW compression. Converting for compatibility usually increases file size. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## TIFF to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/tiff-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF TIFF to GIF converts .tif and .tiff images — including multi-page TIFFs from scanners and fax software — into GIF. Every page becomes a frame, so a multi-page document turns into a flip-through animation with a display time you choose; a single-page TIFF becomes a still GIF. Decoding happens locally with the open-source UTIF library. ### How to use TIFF to GIF 1. **Add a TIFF** — Drop a .tif or .tiff file; all pages are read automatically. 2. **Set timing** — Choose how long each page shows, plus output width and quality. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to GIF and download. ### TIFF in a nutshell TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) dates from 1986 and remains the workhorse of scanning, printing, photography archives and fax. A single TIFF can hold many pages, high bit depths and several compression schemes — flexibility that makes files large and support uneven. Only Safari displays TIFF natively, which is why this tool includes its own decoder. Converting to GIF is handy for sharing scanned pages or fax documents as a quick, auto-playing preview, or for turning a sequence of microscope or time-lapse captures into an animation. For a lossless still of one page, [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) after converting gives a widely supported format. ### Going the other way Need TIFF output for print or archival workflows? [GIF to TIFF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-tiff) writes every GIF frame as a page in a multi-page TIFF. Other document-style inputs are covered by [PDF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/pdf-to-gif), and loose image files by [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif). ### Features - **Multi-page aware:** Every page in the TIFF becomes one frame. - **Works in all browsers:** Decodes TIFF itself — no Safari-only support needed. - **Common compressions:** Uncompressed, LZW, PackBits, Deflate and JPEG-in-TIFF. - **Mixed page sizes:** Pages are fitted to the first page’s size. ### Key facts - Input: .tif, .tiff (single or multi-page) - Decoder: UTIF (runs in your browser) - Page timing: 20 ms – 5 s per page - Output: Static or animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a TIFF to GIF?** Drop the TIFF into this tool. Single-page files become a still GIF; multi-page files become an animated GIF with one frame per page. Set the timing and width, then click Convert to GIF. **Can I convert a multi-page TIFF?** Yes. All pages are decoded and shown as frames. Choose how long each page stays on screen. **Why doesn’t my browser show TIFF files?** Only Safari displays TIFF natively. This converter includes its own TIFF decoder, so it works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox too. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## SVG to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/svg-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF SVG to GIF renders vector SVG graphics into a GIF at the width you choose. Animated SVGs that use SMIL (, ) or CSS animations are captured frame by frame at your chosen frame rate, with the animation length detected automatically; static SVGs become a crisp still GIF. Rendering happens in your browser’s own SVG engine. ### How to use SVG to GIF 1. **Add an SVG** — Drop a .svg file; its size and animation length are detected. 2. **Configure** — Pick the output width, frame rate, length and background. 3. **Render** — Click Convert to GIF and download. ### How animated SVG becomes GIF frames SVG animations live on a timeline: SMIL elements such as and CSS @keyframes both describe how properties change over time. The converter pauses that timeline, steps it forward one frame at a time, freezes the current state of every element and rasterises it — producing evenly spaced frames that play back at exactly the frame rate you choose. Animations driven by JavaScript (for example, GSAP or custom scripts) can’t be captured this way, because scripts are stripped for safety. For those, record them playing in the browser with the [GIF Recorder](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder). Lottie animations exported from After Effects have their own converter: [Lottie to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/lottie-to-gif). ### Picking size and frame rate Because SVG is resolution-independent, the output width is your choice — render icons at 128–256 px, illustrations at 480–800 px. Loading spinners and icon animations look smooth at 20–30 fps; slower illustrative motion is fine at 12–15 fps. GIF transparency is 1-bit, so anti-aliased edges against a transparent background can look jagged on dark pages; choosing a background colour that matches where the GIF will appear gives the cleanest result. To shrink the result further, use the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif). ### Features - **SMIL + CSS animations:** Seeks the animation timeline frame by frame for exact capture. - **Any resolution:** Vectors are rasterised at your chosen width — always sharp. - **Transparent or solid:** Keep transparency or fill a background colour. - **Safe rendering:** Scripts inside SVG files are removed before rendering. ### Key facts - Input: .svg (static, SMIL or CSS-animated) - Frame rate: 5–50 fps - Max length: 60 seconds - Not supported: JavaScript-driven animation - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert an animated SVG to GIF?** Drop the SVG into this tool. The animation length is detected automatically; choose the width and frame rate and click Convert to GIF. **Which SVG animations are supported?** SMIL animations (, , , ) and CSS animations or transitions. JavaScript-driven animations are not captured. **Why do edges look jagged on a transparent GIF?** GIF only supports fully transparent or fully opaque pixels, so soft anti-aliased edges can’t blend. Pick a background colour that matches where the GIF will be shown. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Choose a page range (up to 200 pages), how long each page shows (0.1–10 s) and the output width — ideal for turning slide decks, flyers, menus or comics into an auto-playing preview. A one-page selection produces a still GIF. ### How to use PDF to GIF 1. **Add a PDF** — Drop the PDF; the page count and size are read instantly. 2. **Choose pages** — Set the first and last page, the time per page and the width. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to GIF and download. ### Good uses for a PDF-to-GIF animation GIFs autoplay where PDFs can’t: in email newsletters, social posts, chat apps and README files. That makes PDF to GIF a handy way to preview a slide deck, show off a multi-page flyer or menu, or share a short comic strip. Two to four seconds per page works for text-heavy slides; one second suits visual pages. Text gets small quickly in a GIF, so render at 720–1000 px wide for documents meant to be read. If the result is too large for email, the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) can reduce colours and size, and [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) creates a far smaller video version for social media. ### Back to PDF The reverse is just as easy: [GIF to PDF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-pdf) puts every frame of a GIF on its own page or lays them out as a printable contact sheet. For scanned multi-page TIFF documents, use [TIFF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/tiff-to-gif). ### Features - **Accurate rendering:** Uses pdf.js, the engine behind Firefox’s PDF viewer. - **Page ranges:** Convert the whole document or just the pages you need. - **Slide timing:** From quick flips to 10 seconds per page. - **Stays private:** Confidential documents are rendered on your device only. ### Key facts - Renderer: pdf.js (Mozilla) - Pages per GIF: Up to 200 - Time per page: 0.1–10 s - Not supported: Password-protected PDFs - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a PDF to a GIF?** Drop the PDF into this tool, choose the page range and time per page, set the width and click Convert to GIF. Each page becomes one frame. **Can I convert a single PDF page to GIF?** Yes. Set the first and last page to the same number to get a still GIF of that page. **Does it work with password-protected PDFs?** No. Remove the password in your PDF app first, then convert the unlocked copy. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Sticker to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/sticker-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF Sticker to GIF converts animated stickers from messaging apps into ordinary GIFs you can use anywhere: Telegram animated stickers (.tgs, which are compressed Lottie animations), Telegram video stickers (.webm), WhatsApp stickers (animated .webp) and APNG stickers. Transparency is kept by default, or you can place the sticker on a solid background colour. ### How to use Sticker to GIF 1. **Save the sticker file** — Export or save the sticker as .tgs, .webm, .webp or .png. 2. **Drop it here** — The sticker type is detected automatically. 3. **Convert** — Choose size and background, then click Convert to GIF. ### What sticker files actually are Messaging apps use several formats under the “sticker” label. **Telegram animated stickers** (.tgs) are gzip-compressed Lottie JSON — vector animations limited to 512×512 px and 3 seconds. **Telegram video stickers** are 512 px WebM files using the VP9 codec, which supports transparency. **WhatsApp stickers** are 512×512 WebP images, animated or still. Each needs a different decoder; this tool picks the right one automatically. Because GIF supports only fully transparent or fully opaque pixels, the soft edges of stickers can look slightly jagged over dark backgrounds. If you know where the GIF will be shown, choose a matching background colour for the cleanest edge. ### Related conversions For Lottie files from designers (JSON or .lottie), [Lottie to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/lottie-to-gif) offers frame-rate control. Animated AVIF images go through [AVIF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/avif-to-gif). To make your own stickers, start with a GIF and [remove its background](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-background-remover), then [resize](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) to 512×512. ### Features - **Telegram animated (.tgs):** Rendered from the vector Lottie data — razor sharp. - **Telegram video (.webm):** VP9 stickers with transparency are captured frame by frame. - **WhatsApp (.webp):** Animated WebP stickers keep their frames and timing. - **Transparent or solid:** Keep the cut-out look or add a background colour. ### Key facts - Telegram stickers: 512×512, up to 3 s (.tgs or .webm) - WhatsApp stickers: 512×512 WebP - Also accepts: APNG, Lottie .json / .lottie, GIF - Output: Animated GIF up to 512 px - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a Telegram sticker to GIF?** Save the sticker file (.tgs for animated, .webm for video stickers), drop it into this tool and click Convert to GIF. **What is a .tgs file?** A .tgs file is a Telegram animated sticker: a Lottie vector animation compressed with gzip, limited to 512×512 pixels and 3 seconds. **Can I convert WhatsApp stickers?** Yes. WhatsApp stickers are WebP images. Animated WebP stickers are converted with all their frames in browsers that support the ImageDecoder API, such as Chrome and Edge. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Lottie to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/lottie-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF Lottie to GIF renders Lottie animations — the JSON format exported from After Effects with Bodymovin, dotLottie (.lottie) packages and Telegram .tgs stickers — into an animated GIF. It plays the animation with the lottie-web canvas renderer, stepping through every frame at the frame rate you pick (up to the animation’s native rate), with a transparent or solid background. ### How to use Lottie to GIF 1. **Add a Lottie file** — Drop a .json, .lottie or .tgs file; size, fps and duration are read. 2. **Set output** — Choose width, frame rate and transparent or coloured background. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to GIF and download. ### Lottie in a nutshell Lottie is an open JSON format, created at Airbnb in 2017, that describes vector animations exported from Adobe After Effects with the Bodymovin plugin. Apps render it natively at any resolution, which makes it popular for UI micro-interactions, onboarding screens and loaders. dotLottie (.lottie) is a zipped package of one or more Lottie animations plus assets. GIF is the opposite: a rasterised, universally supported image. Converting lets you drop an animation into documentation, emails, chats, presentations or design reviews where a Lottie player isn’t available. ### Quality tips Lottie animations often run at 30 or 60 fps. GIFs above 25–30 fps add size without much visible benefit, so 25 fps is the default. Thin strokes and soft gradients are the hardest parts for GIF’s 256-colour palette — render a little larger than needed, then use [Resize GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) if you need a smaller version, and the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) for size. Telegram stickers are also handled by [Sticker to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sticker-to-gif), and SMIL/CSS animations by [SVG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/svg-to-gif). ### Features - **Three formats:** Bodymovin JSON, dotLottie archives and Telegram .tgs. - **Vector-sharp:** Rendered at your chosen size straight from vector data. - **Frame-exact:** Each GIF frame is rendered at a precise point in the timeline. - **Design-team friendly:** Share animations with people who can’t open Lottie files. ### Key facts - Input: .json (Bodymovin), .lottie, .tgs - Renderer: lottie-web (canvas) - Frame rate: 5 fps up to the native rate (max 50) - Not supported: After Effects expressions - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a Lottie JSON file to GIF?** Drop the .json file into Lottie to GIF, choose the width, frame rate and background, and click Convert to GIF. **Does it support .lottie (dotLottie) files?** Yes. The first animation inside the .lottie package is rendered. Telegram .tgs stickers are supported too. **Why does my animation look slightly different?** After Effects expressions are not evaluated, and GIF uses 256 colours per frame with 1-bit transparency. Animations without expressions render faithfully. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## ANI to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/ani-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF ANI to GIF converts Windows animated cursor files (.ani) into animated GIFs. It reads the cursor’s RIFF structure — every icon frame, the optional playback sequence and per-step timing in jiffies (1/60 of a second) — decodes each frame (PNG or classic BMP with transparency mask) and rebuilds the animation as a GIF you can preview or share anywhere. ### How to use ANI to GIF 1. **Add an .ani file** — Drop a Windows animated cursor. 2. **Adjust** — Optionally change the speed and output size. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to GIF and download. ### How .ani cursors work An ANI file is a RIFF container (the same family as WAV and AVI) with the type “ACON”. Inside, an “anih” header sets the frame count and default speed, an optional “rate” chunk gives each step its own duration, an optional “seq ” chunk reorders or repeats frames, and a list of “icon” chunks holds the actual images — each one a complete ICO/CUR file. Timing is measured in jiffies, one-sixtieth of a second. This converter follows the sequence and rates exactly, so the GIF plays like the cursor does in Windows. Cursors are tiny; to make them visible on web pages, enlarge the GIF with [Resize GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) at 200–400%. ### Related conversions Need a static icon instead? [GIF to ICO](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-ico) creates multi-size Windows icons from any GIF frame. Other legacy animation formats are handled by [MNG to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/mng-to-gif), and you can inspect any resulting GIF’s frames and timing with the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester). ### Features - **Full ANI support:** Frames, custom sequence order and per-step rates. - **Every icon flavour:** PNG-compressed and 1/4/8/24/32-bit BMP cursor frames. - **Transparency kept:** Alpha channels and AND masks become GIF transparency. - **Speed control:** Play the cursor faster or slower than the original. ### Key facts - Input: .ani (RIFF “ACON”) - Timing unit: Jiffies: 1/60 second - Typical size: 32×32 or 48×48 px - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert an .ani cursor to GIF?** Drop the .ani file into this tool and click Convert to GIF. Frames, sequence and timing are preserved. **Why is the GIF so small?** Cursors are usually 32×32 or 48×48 pixels. Use Resize GIF to enlarge the result — 200% or 400% keeps pixel art crisp. **Can I convert static .cur or .ico files too?** Yes. ICO and CUR files are accepted and produce a still GIF of the largest image they contain. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## MNG to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/mng-to-gif Category: Convert to GIF MNG to GIF converts Multiple-image Network Graphics (.mng) animations — PNG’s little-known animated sibling — into GIFs that play everywhere. It extracts each embedded PNG image, applies its placement (DEFI) and frame timing (FRAM, MHDR ticks) and rebuilds the animation. PNG-based MNG-LC and MNG-VLC files are supported; JNG (JPEG-based) images are not. ### How to use MNG to GIF 1. **Add an .mng file** — Drop a Multiple-image Network Graphics animation. 2. **Adjust** — Change the speed or output width if you like. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to GIF and download. ### What happened to MNG? MNG was designed by the PNG Development Group as PNG’s answer to animated GIF, and finalised in 2001. It is powerful — full alpha, 24-bit colour, layered composition — but complex, and browser support was short-lived: Mozilla removed it in 2003. Today APNG has taken its place on the web, so MNG files mostly survive in old game assets, emulator screenshots and archives. Converting to GIF makes those animations viewable again. For a modern format with full alpha instead, convert the resulting GIF to APNG with [GIF to APNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-apng), or to video with [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4). ### If your MNG won’t open Some MNG files store frames as JNG (JPEG Network Graphics) or as delta-PNG patches; those variants aren’t supported. If you have the original frames as separate PNGs, [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif) can rebuild the animation. Other legacy animations — such as Windows cursors — go through [ANI to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/ani-to-gif). ### Features - **Plays the unplayable:** No mainstream browser has shown MNG for two decades. - **Timing preserved:** Reads ticks-per-second and interframe delays. - **Positions respected:** Partial-frame images are placed with their DEFI offsets. - **Transparency kept:** PNG alpha becomes GIF transparency. ### Key facts - Format: MNG 1.0 (2001) - Supported: MNG-LC / VLC with embedded PNG - Not supported: JNG images, delta-PNG - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I open an MNG file?** Modern browsers and most image viewers can’t display MNG. Convert it to GIF here, and it will play in any browser or app. **Which MNG files are supported?** MNG-LC and MNG-VLC files built from embedded PNG images — the most common kind. JNG-based and delta-PNG files are not supported. **Will transparency be kept?** Yes, as GIF transparency. GIF only has on/off transparency, so partially transparent pixels become fully solid or fully clear. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to MP4 URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4 Category: Convert from GIF GIF to MP4 converts an animated GIF into an H.264 MP4 video using your browser’s built-in video encoder (WebCodecs). MP4 files are typically 5 to 10 times smaller than the same GIF and are accepted by Instagram, X, TikTok and most websites. You can repeat the animation several times so short loops make a longer video. ### How to use GIF to MP4 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the animated GIF you want as a video. 2. **Set repeats and background** — Choose how many times to loop and a background for transparent areas. 3. **Convert and download** — Click Convert to MP4 and download the video. ### Why platforms prefer MP4 over GIF GIF compresses each frame on its own with 1980s LZW compression, while H.264 predicts motion between frames. The same animation as MP4 is typically 5–10× smaller, loads faster and shows millions of colours instead of 256. That’s why X, Imgur and most messaging apps quietly convert uploaded GIFs into video. Two things don’t carry over: transparency (MP4 has none, so transparent areas get the background colour you pick) and automatic looping (video players decide whether to loop). Use the “Play the GIF” multiplier to make short loops long enough for platforms with a minimum video length. Need a QuickTime file for Apple editing apps? Use [GIF to MOV](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mov). Want to add a soundtrack? Try [Add Music to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/add-music-to-gif). ### The reverse direction To turn a video back into a GIF, use [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) or [MP4 to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/mp4-to-gif). If you must keep a GIF but need it smaller, the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) reduces colours and frames instead. ### Features - **Hardware encoding:** Uses WebCodecs for fast H.264 encoding on your device. - **Much smaller files:** Videos are usually a fraction of the GIF’s size. - **Loop multiplier:** Repeat short GIFs 2×–10× for a longer clip. - **Exact timing:** Each frame keeps its original duration in the video. ### Key facts - Output: MP4 (H.264); WebM where H.264 encoding is unavailable - Encoder: Browser WebCodecs - Typical size: 5–10× smaller than the GIF - Supported browsers: Chrome, Edge, Safari 16.4+, Firefox 130+ - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **Why convert a GIF to MP4?** MP4 uses modern video compression, so the same animation is usually 5–10× smaller, loads faster and is accepted by social networks that reject large GIFs. **Does the MP4 keep transparency?** No. MP4 video does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose. **Why can’t my browser convert to MP4?** The converter relies on the WebCodecs API. It works in current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. If H.264 isn’t available, the tool automatically produces a WebM video instead. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to MOV URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mov Category: Convert from GIF GIF to MOV converts an animated GIF into a QuickTime .mov video with H.264 compression, encoded in your browser with WebCodecs. MOV is Apple’s native video container, so the result drops straight into QuickTime Player, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Keynote and Premiere. Repeat the GIF up to 10× and choose a background colour for transparent areas. ### How to use GIF to MOV 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the animated GIF. 2. **Set length and background** — Repeat the loop 1–10× and pick a fill colour for transparency. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to MOV and download the QuickTime file. ### MOV vs MP4 MOV (QuickTime) and MP4 are close relatives — MP4 was standardised from Apple’s QuickTime file format — and both can carry the same H.264 video. The practical difference is software expectations: Apple apps and many editing tools treat .mov as their native format, while web platforms and social networks prefer .mp4. Pick MOV for editing timelines and Keynote; pick [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) for sharing online. Because video has no transparency, transparent GIF pixels are filled with the background colour. To keep transparency in an Apple-friendly still, export a frame with [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) instead. ### Using GIFs in iMovie, Keynote and Final Cut iMovie and Final Cut Pro don’t animate imported GIFs reliably, but they handle MOV perfectly. Convert with enough repeats to cover the clip length you need. For an iPhone Live Photo instead, see [GIF to Live Photo](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-live-photo), and to add sound use [Add Music to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/add-music-to-gif). ### Features - **True QuickTime container:** A real .mov file, not a renamed MP4. - **H.264 video:** The most compatible codec for editing apps. - **Loop to length:** Repeat short GIFs to make usable B-roll or slide backgrounds. - **Even dimensions:** Sizes are rounded to even numbers, as H.264 requires. ### Key facts - Container: QuickTime (.mov) - Codec: H.264 (WebM fallback if unavailable) - Opens in: QuickTime, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Keynote, Premiere - Audio: None - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to MOV?** Drop the GIF into this tool, choose how many times it should play and a background colour, then click Convert to MOV. **What is a QuickTime movie?** QuickTime movie is Apple’s video container format, saved as .mov. This tool creates a QuickTime file with H.264 video, which opens in QuickTime Player and Apple’s editing apps. **Can I import a GIF into iMovie?** iMovie doesn’t reliably animate GIFs. Convert the GIF to MOV first, then import the MOV — it plays as normal video. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Splitter URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-frames Category: Convert from GIF The GIF Splitter breaks an animated GIF into individual, fully composited PNG images — one per frame — and lists each frame’s delay in milliseconds. Download any single frame or every frame at once in a ZIP archive. Frames are extracted locally in your browser. ### How to use GIF Splitter 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to split. 2. **Browse frames** — Every frame is shown with its number and delay. 3. **Download** — Save single frames, or all of them as a ZIP of PNGs. ### Why split GIFs can come out broken elsewhere Optimised GIFs often store only the rectangle of pixels that changed since the previous frame, plus a “disposal” instruction that says what to do afterwards. Naive splitters export those raw patches, giving you strips and fragments. This splitter replays the animation exactly as a browser would — applying every disposal method — so each PNG is a complete picture. If you only need one still image, [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) lets you pick a single frame with a preview slider, and [Pause GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/pause-gif) lets you scrub to the exact moment first. ### Editing frames and putting them back together Split frames are perfect for retouching in an image editor, building a storyboard, or feeding a machine-learning dataset. When you’re done, reassemble them with [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif). For game engines, [GIF to Sprite Sheet](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-sprite-sheet) packs every frame into one image with JSON coordinates, and [GIF to PDF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-pdf) prints them as a contact sheet. ### Features - **Fully composited:** Each PNG shows the frame exactly as it appears, not a partial patch. - **ZIP download:** Grab every frame in one archive with zero-padded file names. - **Frame timing:** See the delay of every frame in milliseconds. - **Lossless PNG:** Frames are saved as PNG with transparency preserved. ### Key facts - Output: PNG images, individually or as ZIP - Compositing: Full frames, disposal handled - Transparency: Preserved in PNG - File names: name-frame-001.png … - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I extract frames from a GIF?** Upload the GIF to the GIF Splitter. Each frame appears in a grid; click a frame to download it as PNG, or click Download all (ZIP) to save every frame at once. **Why do other tools give me broken or partial frames?** Optimised GIFs often store only the pixels that change between frames. This tool composites each frame with the previous ones, so every PNG is a complete image. **Can I turn the frames back into a GIF?** Yes — edit the PNGs however you like, then use Images to GIF to reassemble them into an animation. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to PNG URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png Category: Convert from GIF GIF to PNG converts an animated or still GIF into a lossless PNG image. Use the slider to choose exactly which frame becomes the PNG — not just the first one — or export every frame as PNGs in a ZIP. Transparency is preserved, and the PNG looks pixel-for-pixel identical to the GIF frame. ### How to use GIF to PNG 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop any GIF, animated or still. 2. **Choose the frame** — Slide to the frame you want, or switch to Every frame (ZIP). 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to PNG and download. ### GIF to PNG vs GIF to APNG A standard PNG is a single still image, so converting an animated GIF to PNG means choosing one frame. That’s ideal for thumbnails, poster frames, documentation screenshots or editing a frame in Photoshop. If you want to **keep the animation** in PNG form, use [GIF to APNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-apng) — APNG is the animated extension of PNG supported by all modern browsers. Because PNG is lossless and GIF already has at most 256 colours, nothing is lost in the conversion; the PNG may even be smaller when the frame is mostly flat colour. ### Finding the perfect frame Reaction GIFs and fast animations can be hard to freeze at the right moment. Scrub through frame by frame with the slider here, or use [Pause GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/pause-gif) for play/pause controls at reduced speed. To keep the result as a GIF that simply doesn’t move, use [Static GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/static-gif). For all frames with timing info, see the [GIF Splitter](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-frames). ### Features - **Pick any frame:** A live preview shows exactly what the PNG will contain. - **Pixel-identical:** PNG is lossless, so the image is an exact copy of the frame. - **Transparency kept:** Transparent GIF areas stay transparent. - **Batch option:** Export all frames as numbered PNGs in a ZIP. ### Key facts - Output: PNG (single) or ZIP of PNGs - Quality: Lossless, identical pixels - Transparency: Preserved - Animation: Not kept — use GIF to APNG for animated PNG - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to PNG?** Upload the GIF, choose the frame with the slider and click Convert to PNG. Switch to “Every frame (ZIP)” to export all frames at once. **Does converting GIF to PNG lose quality?** No. PNG is lossless, so the PNG contains exactly the same pixels as the GIF frame. **Can a PNG be animated?** A standard PNG can’t, but APNG (animated PNG) can. Use GIF to APNG to keep the animation. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to APNG URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-apng Category: Convert from GIF GIF to APNG converts an animated GIF into an Animated PNG (APNG) with exactly the same frames and timing. The encoder stores only the region that changed in each frame, uses PNG’s per-row filtering and Deflate compression, and writes a standard .png file that animates in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari while falling back to a still image in older software. ### How to use GIF to APNG 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the animated GIF. 2. **Set looping** — Loop forever or play once. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to APNG and download the .png file. ### APNG vs GIF APNG extends PNG with animation chunks (acTL, fcTL, fdAT) while staying backwards compatible: software that doesn’t understand them just shows the first frame. Compared with GIF, APNG supports millions of colours and smooth 8-bit alpha transparency, and frame delays can be set to the millisecond. It’s supported by every major browser and used by apps such as Telegram, Discord and LINE for stickers. Converting an existing GIF keeps its 256-colour frames, so it won’t look better than the source, but you gain a format that editing tools can enhance with full colour and alpha. File size depends on content: flat graphics often shrink, while dithered photographic GIFs can grow. ### Related conversions For a single still, use [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png). For the smallest animated file, [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) is usually best, and [GIF to AVIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-avif) creates modern stills. Have an APNG and need a GIF? Drop it into [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif) or [Sticker to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sticker-to-gif). ### Features - **Identical frames:** Every pixel and every delay carried over exactly. - **Delta frames:** Only changed regions are stored after the first frame. - **Smart filtering:** Each row uses the PNG filter that compresses best. - **Graceful fallback:** Non-APNG viewers show the first frame as a normal PNG. ### Key facts - Output: APNG saved as .png - Browser support: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari - Colour depth: 24-bit + 8-bit alpha - Timing precision: 1 ms (vs GIF’s 10 ms) - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to APNG?** Upload the GIF, choose whether it loops forever or once, and click Convert to APNG. The download is a .png file that animates in modern browsers. **Why does the APNG have a .png extension?** APNG is a backwards-compatible extension of PNG, so it uses .png. Viewers that support animation play it; others show the first frame. **Is APNG better than GIF?** APNG supports far more colours, smooth transparency and 1 ms timing. GIF is still more universally supported in older apps and email clients. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to Sprite Sheet URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-sprite-sheet Category: Convert from GIF GIF to Sprite Sheet packs every frame of an animated GIF into a single PNG grid and, optionally, a JSON file describing each frame’s position, size and duration in the widely used TexturePacker hash format. Choose automatic or fixed columns, padding between frames and a transparent or coloured background — ready for Unity, Godot, Phaser, PixiJS or CSS sprite animation. ### How to use GIF to Sprite Sheet 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the animation you want to pack. 2. **Lay out the grid** — Choose automatic or fixed columns, padding and background. 3. **Export** — Download the PNG sheet and, if enabled, the JSON data. ### Using the sheet in a game engine or on the web Most 2D engines import sprite sheets either by grid (frame width × height) or by a JSON atlas. The JSON written here lists each frame’s x, y, width, height and its original GIF duration, so variable-speed animations keep their rhythm. For CSS, set the sheet as a background image and step background-position with a steps() animation. Add 1–2 px of padding if your engine samples textures with filtering — it prevents neighbouring frames bleeding into each other at the edges. For pixel art, keep padding at 0 and use nearest-neighbour filtering. ### Going the other way Have a sprite sheet and want a shareable preview? [Sprite Sheet to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/sprite-sheet-to-gif) animates any grid. To get individual frame files instead of one sheet, use the [GIF Splitter](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-frames), and to adjust the animation before packing, [trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) or [resize](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) the GIF first. ### Features - **Automatic grid:** Picks a near-square layout to keep the sheet compact. - **JSON metadata:** Frame rectangles and durations in TexturePacker-style JSON. - **Padding control:** Add 0–16 px gaps to prevent texture bleeding. - **Transparent output:** Lossless PNG with transparency kept. ### Key facts - Output: PNG sheet + optional JSON - JSON format: TexturePacker “hash” style - Frame order: Left to right, top to bottom - Durations: Original GIF delays, in ms - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I turn a GIF into a sprite sheet?** Upload the GIF, choose the layout options and click Create sprite sheet. Download the PNG and, if you need it, the JSON frame data. **What is in the JSON file?** Each frame’s position and size on the sheet plus its duration in milliseconds, in the TexturePacker hash format that many engines and libraries can read. **Is there a size limit?** Browsers limit canvas size, so very long or very large GIFs may exceed it. Resize or trim the GIF first if the sheet is too big. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to ICO URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-ico Category: Convert from GIF GIF to ICO turns any frame of a GIF (or a PNG/JPG/WebP) into a Windows icon file containing several sizes — 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px — so it looks sharp everywhere from browser tabs to the Windows desktop. Non-square images are centred on a transparent square, and each size is stored as PNG inside the .ico. ### How to use GIF to ICO 1. **Upload an image** — Drop a GIF (or PNG/JPG/WebP). 2. **Choose frame and sizes** — Pick the frame and tick the icon sizes you need. 3. **Create** — Click Create ICO and download the .ico file. ### Which sizes do you need? For a **website favicon**, 16 and 32 px cover browser tabs, bookmarks and the address bar; adding 48 px helps Windows taskbar pins. For a **Windows application or shortcut icon**, include 16, 32, 48 and 256 px so Explorer can pick the right one at every zoom level. Modern browsers also accept PNG or SVG favicons, but an .ico at /favicon.ico remains the most universally supported fallback. Small sizes are unforgiving: fine detail and thin text disappear at 16 px. Pick the frame with the boldest, simplest silhouette — scrub through with the frame slider — or [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) to the most recognisable part first. ### Animated cursors and other icon formats ICO files can’t animate. If you need an animated Windows cursor, the format is .ani — and [ANI to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/ani-to-gif) converts those back into GIFs. For a lossless still of any frame without icon packaging, use [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png). ### Features - **Multi-resolution:** All selected sizes in one .ico file. - **Favicon-ready:** 16 and 32 px for browser tabs and bookmarks. - **Windows-ready:** 48 and 256 px for Explorer and desktop shortcuts. - **Transparency kept:** Transparent areas stay transparent at every size. ### Key facts - Sizes: 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128, 256 px - Entry format: PNG-compressed (Windows Vista+) - Animation: Not supported by ICO — one frame is used - Output: .ico - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to an ICO file?** Upload the GIF, choose the frame and the sizes to include, then click Create ICO and download the .ico file. **Can an ICO file be animated?** No. ICO files are static, so one frame of the GIF is used. Animated Windows cursors use the separate .ani format. **What size should a favicon be?** Include at least 16×16 and 32×32 pixels. Adding 48×48 improves how the icon looks when a site is pinned in Windows. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to PDF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-pdf Category: Convert from GIF GIF to PDF converts the frames of an animated GIF into a PDF document — either one frame per page (sized to the frame, A4 or US Letter) or a contact sheet with 2–6 frames per row for printing and review. Choose JPEG images for small files or lossless images for exact pixels; the PDF is generated entirely in your browser. ### How to use GIF to PDF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF. 2. **Choose layout** — One frame per page or a contact sheet; page size; image quality; which frames. 3. **Create the PDF** — Click Convert to PDF and download it. ### Why turn a GIF into a PDF? PDFs can’t animate, but they’re the right tool when you need to **review, annotate or print** an animation: a storyboard for client sign-off, a motion study for a class, the steps of a UI flow for a bug report, or a flip-book to print and bind. Contact sheets show many frames at a glance; one frame per page is better for presenting or for flip-books. Use “Frames to include” to sample long GIFs — every 3rd or 5th frame often captures the motion without hundreds of pages. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose, since PDF images here are opaque. ### The reverse: PDF to GIF To animate a document instead — for example a slide deck preview — use [PDF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/pdf-to-gif). To get the frames as separate image files, use the [GIF Splitter](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-frames); for print-industry formats, [GIF to TIFF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-tiff) creates a multi-page TIFF. ### Features - **Two layouts:** Full pages for presenting, contact sheets for reviewing. - **Paper sizes:** Fit to frame, A4 or US Letter with margins. - **Frame sampling:** Include every frame or every 2nd–10th frame. - **Lossless option:** Flate-compressed images keep exact pixels. ### Key facts - Page sizes: Fit frame, A4, US Letter - Contact sheet: 2–6 columns - Image encoding: JPEG (DCT) or lossless (Flate) - Animation: Not possible in PDF — frames become pages - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to PDF?** Upload the GIF, choose one frame per page or a contact sheet, pick the page size and image quality, then click Convert to PDF. **Will the PDF be animated?** No. PDF doesn’t support animated images, so each frame becomes a page or a cell on a contact sheet. **Which image quality should I choose?** JPEG keeps the PDF small and looks great for photos. Lossless keeps exact pixels — better for pixel art, text and diagrams. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to TIFF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-tiff Category: Convert from GIF GIF to TIFF converts an animated GIF into a TIFF image: either a multi-page TIFF with one page per frame, or a single page from the frame you choose. Pages are stored losslessly as 8-bit RGB (or RGBA when the GIF has transparency), compressed with Deflate or left uncompressed for maximum compatibility with older readers. ### How to use GIF to TIFF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF. 2. **Pick pages and compression** — All frames as pages or one frame; Deflate or None. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to TIFF and download. ### When TIFF is the right target TIFF is the standard interchange format for print, publishing, scientific imaging and archives. Converting a GIF’s frames to a multi-page TIFF is useful for importing an animation into tools that expect page sequences — document management systems, OCR and fax software, image-analysis tools, or print layouts. Both compression options are lossless. Deflate (Adobe-style zlib) is understood by Photoshop, GIMP, Affinity, macOS Preview and libtiff-based tools; choose None only for very old or specialised software, as files will be much larger. ### Related conversions Coming from TIFF? [TIFF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/tiff-to-gif) animates multi-page TIFFs. For documents, [GIF to PDF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-pdf) is more portable; for web use, [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) produces a smaller lossless still. ### Features - **Multi-page output:** Each frame becomes a page with correct page numbering. - **Lossless:** Exact pixels; nothing is recompressed lossily. - **Alpha when needed:** Transparent GIFs produce RGBA pages with unassociated alpha. - **Compatibility choice:** Deflate for size, None for legacy software. ### Key facts - Output: Baseline TIFF (.tiff), little-endian - Pages: One per frame, or a single frame - Compression: Deflate (zlib) or none - Colour: 8-bit RGB / RGBA - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to TIFF?** Upload the GIF, choose whether to save every frame as a page or a single frame, pick the compression and click Convert to TIFF. **Can TIFF hold an animated GIF?** TIFF doesn’t animate, but it can store many pages. Each GIF frame becomes one page of a multi-page TIFF. **Which compression should I choose?** Deflate gives smaller files and is widely supported. Choose None if the TIFF will be opened by old or specialised software. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to AVIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-avif Category: Convert from GIF GIF to AVIF converts a frame of your GIF into an AVIF image using libavif compiled to WebAssembly, right in your browser. Choose the frame, a quality level (or lossless) and whether to keep transparency; AVIF stills are typically far smaller than the equivalent GIF or PNG. The output is a still image — for a compact animated version of the whole GIF, convert to MP4. ### How to use GIF to AVIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF. 2. **Choose frame and quality** — Pick the frame and set quality 20–100 or lossless. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to AVIF and download. ### Why AVIF, and why still? AVIF stores images with the AV1 codec, giving dramatically smaller files than GIF, PNG or JPG at the same visual quality, plus full alpha and HDR. It’s an excellent format for website images, thumbnails and poster frames. Quality 60–75 is usually indistinguishable from the original for web use. Animated AVIF exists, but browser-side encoders can’t produce it reliably yet, so this tool creates a still from the frame you choose. If you need the whole animation small, [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) is the most compact and compatible choice; [GIF to APNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-apng) keeps transparency. ### Related formats Need the result as HEIF for Apple devices? [GIF to HEIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-heif) packages the same AV1 image as a HEIF file. Converting the other way, [AVIF to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/avif-to-gif) handles both still and animated AVIFs, and [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) gives a universally compatible lossless still. ### Features - **Real AV1 encoding:** Uses libavif via WebAssembly — works in every modern browser. - **Quality control:** From tiny previews to lossless archival. - **Alpha support:** Keep transparency or flatten onto white. - **Frame choice:** Pick the best moment of the animation. ### Key facts - Encoder: libavif (WebAssembly) - Quality range: 20–100, or lossless - Output: Still AVIF image - Displays in: Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16+ - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to AVIF?** Upload the GIF, pick the frame, choose a quality (or lossless) and click Convert to AVIF. **Is the AVIF animated?** No — this tool creates a still AVIF from one frame. For a small animated file, convert the GIF to MP4 instead. **What quality should I use?** 60–75 is visually near-identical for most images and much smaller than PNG. Use lossless for pixel art or when exact pixels matter. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to HEIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-heif Category: Convert from GIF GIF to HEIF converts a frame of a GIF into a HEIF image file. Browsers can’t encode HEVC (the codec in iPhone HEIC photos) because of patent licensing, so this tool encodes the image with AV1 — the HEIF variant better known as AVIF — and labels it as a generic HEIF image. macOS, iOS 16+ and other AV1-capable HEIF readers can open it. ### How to use GIF to HEIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF. 2. **Choose frame and quality** — Pick the frame and set quality or lossless. 3. **Convert** — Click Convert to HEIF and download the .heif file. ### HEIF, HEIC and AVIF explained HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) is a container defined by MPEG. What’s inside depends on the codec: **HEIC** files hold HEVC-compressed images (what iPhones save), while **AVIF** files hold AV1-compressed images. Both are HEIF under the hood. HEVC encoding isn’t available in browsers, so this tool writes AV1 into the HEIF container. If the software you’re targeting specifically requires HEVC-coded .heic files, a native app is needed. For the web, an [AVIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-avif) file is the most widely displayed modern format, and [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) is the safest universal choice. ### Related conversions Going from iPhone photos to GIF? [HEIC to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/heic-to-gif) decodes HEIC in any browser. To move a GIF onto an iPhone as something that moves, see [GIF to Live Photo](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-live-photo) or [GIF to MOV](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mov). ### Features - **HEIF container:** A standards-based ISO/IEC 23008-12 image file. - **AV1 compression:** Modern, royalty-free and very efficient. - **Transparency:** Keep alpha or flatten onto white. - **Private:** Encoded with WebAssembly on your device. ### Key facts - Container: HEIF (major brand mif1) - Codec: AV1 (AVIF profile) - Opens in: macOS 13+, iOS 16+, AV1-capable HEIF readers - Not produced: HEVC-coded HEIC (browsers can’t encode HEVC) - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I convert a GIF to HEIF?** Upload the GIF, pick the frame and quality, and click Convert to HEIF to download a .heif image. **Is this the same as HEIC?** Both use the HEIF container. HEIC uses the HEVC codec; this tool uses AV1, because browsers can’t encode HEVC. Apple devices on macOS 13+ and iOS 16+ can open AV1-coded HEIF/AVIF images. **Can the HEIF be animated?** No, a single frame is converted. For a moving version on Apple devices, convert the GIF to MOV or Live Photo. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF to Live Photo URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-live-photo Category: Convert from GIF GIF to Live Photo prepares the two files an iPhone Live Photo is made of: a short H.264 QuickTime (.mov) video, and a matching JPG key photo taken from the frame you choose. The GIF is looped to fill the length you set (about 3 seconds, like a camera Live Photo). Import both into a video-to-Live-Photo app on your iPhone to save them as a Live Photo or Live wallpaper. ### How to use GIF to Live Photo 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to see move on your iPhone. 2. **Pick the key photo and length** — Choose the frame shown when it’s not playing, and a 1–5 s length. 3. **Create and import** — Download the ZIP (MOV + JPG) and open the files in a Live Photo app on your iPhone. ### How Live Photos work A Live Photo is two files Apple keeps paired: a still image and a roughly 3-second video, linked by matching identifiers in their metadata. The Photos app only creates that link itself when the camera captures them, or when an app writes them to your library through Apple’s Photos framework — a web page can’t do that step. So this tool does everything else: it builds the MOV in the right codec and container, loops the GIF to a natural length, and exports the key photo you pick. On your iPhone, open both files in a video-to-Live-Photo app from the App Store (intoLive is a well-known example), which saves them as a real Live Photo you can set as a Live wallpaper. ### Tips for a great Live wallpaper iPhone screens are tall, so portrait GIFs work best. [Crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) to a 9:16 ratio first and keep the subject centred. Seamless loops look most natural — a [boomerang](https://www.gifrush.com/reverse-gif) makes almost any clip loop smoothly. For a plain video instead, use [GIF to MOV](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mov) or [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4). ### Features - **iPhone-ready MOV:** H.264 in a QuickTime container, up to 1920 px. - **Chosen key photo:** Pick the still that appears on your lock screen. - **Auto-looping:** Short GIFs repeat to fill the Live Photo length. - **Separate downloads:** Get the MOV and JPG individually or as a ZIP. ### Key facts - Outputs: MOV (H.264) + JPG key photo - Default length: 3 seconds - Max size: 1920 px on the long side - Final step: Combine on iPhone with a Live Photo app - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I turn a GIF into a Live Photo?** Create the MOV and key photo here, transfer them to your iPhone, then open them in a video-to-Live-Photo app, which saves them to Photos as a Live Photo. **Why can’t the website save a Live Photo directly?** iOS only creates Live Photos from the camera or through apps using Apple’s Photos framework. Websites can’t write to your photo library that way, so the last step happens in an app. **Can I use it as a live wallpaper?** Yes. Once saved as a Live Photo, choose it in Settings → Wallpaper. A vertical, seamlessly looping GIF gives the best result. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Add Music to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/add-music-to-gif Category: Convert from GIF Add Music to GIF combines an animated GIF with an audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG) and produces an MP4 video where the GIF loops for the length of the song — or for a set number of loops. GIF files can’t contain sound, so the result is a video, encoded in your browser with H.264 video and AAC audio (Opus where AAC isn’t available). ### How to use Add Music to GIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF that should play. 2. **Add audio** — Drop a song or sound, choose where it starts and how long the video is. 3. **Create the video** — Click Create video with music and download the MP4. ### Can a GIF have sound? No — GIF is purely an image format with no way to store audio. Anything described as a “GIF with sound” online is actually a short video. This tool makes that video properly: the GIF’s frames are encoded with their original timing, looped as needed, and muxed together with your audio into a standard MP4. For social media, a loop length that matches the beat looks deliberate: use the loop-count option and adjust the GIF’s tempo first with the [GIF Speed Changer](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer). Without audio, [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) is the faster route. ### Choosing and trimming audio Use “Start the audio at” to skip intros and land on the hook. “Whole song” keeps the full track (up to 10 minutes); “Number of loops” makes a short clip by trimming the audio to the GIF’s length × loops. Only use music you have the rights to share. If you need an Apple-friendly file for editing, convert with [GIF to MOV](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mov) and add sound in your editor. ### Features - **Loop to the song:** The GIF repeats until the music ends (up to 10 minutes). - **Or loop count:** Fix the number of loops and trim the audio to match. - **Start offset:** Begin the audio at the chorus or any moment. - **Shareable MP4:** H.264 + AAC plays on phones, social apps and the web. ### Key facts - Audio input: MP3, M4A/AAC, WAV, OGG, FLAC (as your browser decodes) - Output: MP4 (H.264 + AAC/Opus) - Max length: 10 minutes - Why video?: GIF has no audio track - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I add music to a GIF?** Upload the GIF, add an audio file, choose where the audio starts and how long the video should be, then click Create video with music to download an MP4. **Why is the result an MP4 and not a GIF?** The GIF format cannot store audio. A GIF with music is always a video file, so the tool creates an MP4. **Which audio formats work?** Anything your browser can decode — MP3, M4A/AAC, WAV and OGG work in all modern browsers; FLAC works in most. --- ## GIF Resizer URL: https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif Category: Edit GIFs The GIF Resizer changes the pixel dimensions of an animated GIF while keeping every frame and its timing. Enter a new width and height or pick a percentage; the aspect ratio stays locked unless you unlock it. Frames are resampled with high-quality smoothing in your browser. ### How to use GIF Resizer 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop your animated GIF onto the page. 2. **Choose the new size** — Type a width or height, or tap a percentage preset. 3. **Resize and download** — Click Resize GIF, check the preview and download. ### Common GIF sizes Different destinations want different sizes: **Discord and Slack emoji** look best at 128×128 (Discord allows emoji up to 256 KB); **chat and social GIFs** are typically 480 px wide; **website headers and tutorials** may need 800–1200 px. Shrinking also makes files much smaller, because size scales roughly with pixel count — halving both sides typically cuts the file to a quarter or a third. If the shape is wrong rather than the size, [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) first, then resize. For square emoji from a wide GIF, crop to 1:1 and resize to 128 px. ### Enlarging GIFs Upscaling can’t add detail, but it’s useful for small pixel art, cursors and sprites. Whole-number scales (200%, 400%) keep pixels evenly sized. For a smaller file at the same dimensions, use the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif); to fit an exact frame shape, combine resizing with [Rotate GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/rotate-gif) or [Crop GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif). ### Features - **Animation preserved:** Every frame and every frame delay is kept exactly. - **Aspect lock:** Change one side and the other follows — or unlock to stretch. - **Quick presets:** Jump to 25%, 50%, 75%, 150% or 200% in one tap. - **High-quality scaling:** Smooth resampling avoids jagged edges when shrinking. ### Key facts - Input: Animated or static GIF - Size range: 16–2000 px per side - Timing: Original frame delays kept - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I resize a GIF without losing the animation?** Use a GIF-aware resizer like this one: it decodes every frame, scales each one and re-encodes them with the original timing. Ordinary image editors often keep only the first frame. **Does resizing reduce GIF file size?** Yes. File size scales roughly with pixel count, so halving the width and height typically cuts the file to about a quarter to a third of its original size. **What size should a GIF be for Discord or Slack?** Custom emoji work best at 128×128 px, and Discord accepts emoji up to 256 KB. For chat messages, 480 px wide is a good balance of clarity and file size. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Cropper URL: https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif Category: Edit GIFs The GIF Cropper cuts every frame of an animated GIF to the same rectangle. Drag a selection on the preview or type exact X, Y, width and height values, optionally locked to a square, 4:3, 16:9 or 9:16 ratio. The crop is applied in your browser and the animation timing is unchanged. ### How to use GIF Cropper 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to crop. 2. **Select the area** — Drag on the preview, pick an aspect ratio or type exact pixels. 3. **Crop and download** — Click Crop GIF and download the result. ### Cropping vs trimming vs resizing **Cropping** removes pixels from the edges of every frame (space). **Trimming** removes frames from the start or end of the animation (time) — use the [GIF Trimmer](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) for that. **Resizing** scales the whole picture without removing anything — use the [GIF Resizer](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif). Cropping first and resizing second gives the sharpest result. Aspect-ratio presets match common destinations: 1:1 for avatars and emoji, 9:16 for stories and phone wallpapers (see [GIF to Live Photo](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-live-photo)), and 16:9 for presentations and video thumbnails. ### Hiding something instead of cropping it out If what you want to remove sits in the middle of the frame — a face, a name or an email address — cropping won’t help. Use [Blur GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/blur-gif) to blur or pixelate just that area across every frame. To place the cropped GIF on a new background, try the [GIF background remover](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-background-remover). ### Features - **Drag to select:** Draw a new box, or drag the existing one to move it. - **Ratio presets:** Free, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 and 9:16 for every platform. - **Pixel-exact:** Fine-tune X, Y, width and height with number inputs. - **Lossless timing:** Frame order and delays are untouched. ### Key facts - Input: Animated or static GIF - Aspect presets: Free, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16 - Applies to: Every frame, same rectangle - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I crop a GIF without breaking the animation?** Upload it to the GIF Cropper, drag a box over the area you want to keep and click Crop GIF. The same crop is applied to every frame, so the animation plays exactly as before. **How do I make a square GIF?** Choose the 1:1 preset, then drag the square over the part of the GIF you want to keep and click Crop GIF. **Will cropping make the file smaller?** Usually, yes. Removing pixels means less image data per frame, so the cropped GIF is typically smaller in proportion to the area removed. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Rotate GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/rotate-gif Category: Edit GIFs Rotate GIF turns every frame of an animated GIF by 90° left, 90° right, 180° or any custom angle from −180° to 180°, and can mirror it horizontally or vertically. Right-angle rotations are lossless — pixels are moved exactly, not resampled — while custom angles enlarge the canvas so no corner of the animation is cut off. ### How to use Rotate GIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF that’s sideways or upside down. 2. **Choose rotation** — Pick 90° left/right, 180° or a custom angle; add a flip if needed. 3. **Rotate** — Click Rotate GIF and download. ### Why GIFs end up sideways Phones record video with an orientation flag rather than physically rotating the pixels. Some converters ignore that flag, so a GIF made from a portrait video can come out sideways. A 90° rotation fixes it without any quality loss. Mirroring is handy for webcam recordings (which are often mirrored), and for making a character face the other way. If your source is a video, you can also convert it again with [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif), which uses the browser’s player and respects orientation. ### After rotating Rotating by a custom angle leaves empty corners. [Crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) them away afterwards, or fill them with a colour that matches your page. A 90° turn swaps width and height — [resize](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) if you need a specific size. For a GIF that plays backwards rather than upside down, see [Reverse GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/reverse-gif). ### Features - **Lossless right angles:** 90°, 180° and 270° turns move pixels exactly. - **Any angle:** Tilt by a few degrees to straighten a horizon. - **Mirror and flip:** Horizontal or vertical flips, alone or with rotation. - **Live preview:** See the orientation before you export. ### Key facts - Presets: 90° left, 90° right, 180° - Custom angle: −180° to 180° - Flips: Horizontal, vertical - Corners (custom): Transparent or any colour - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I rotate a GIF?** Upload the GIF, choose 90° left, 90° right, 180° or a custom angle, and click Rotate GIF. Every frame is rotated and the animation is kept. **Does rotating a GIF reduce quality?** Not for 90°, 180° or 270° — those rotations move pixels exactly. Custom angles require resampling, which softens edges slightly. **How do I mirror a GIF?** Turn on “Flip horizontally” to create a mirror image. You can combine flips with any rotation. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Trimmer URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer Category: Edit GIFs The GIF Trimmer shortens an animated GIF by keeping only the frames between a start and end point you choose. Two sliders set the first and last frame, previews show exactly which frames you’re keeping, and the new duration is calculated as you go. Frame timing inside the kept range is unchanged. ### How to use GIF Trimmer 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to shorten. 2. **Set start and end** — Drag the sliders; previews show the first and last frames kept. 3. **Trim** — Click Trim GIF and download. ### Trimming for a perfect loop The most satisfying GIFs loop seamlessly — the last frame flows straight back into the first. Trim to a point where the motion returns to where it started (a swing at its peak, a character back in place). If no such point exists, a [boomerang](https://www.gifrush.com/reverse-gif) loops perfectly by playing forward then backward. Trimming also cuts file size directly: every frame you remove is data you don’t ship. Combine with the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) for big savings. ### Trim, split or speed up? To remove a section from the middle, split the GIF with the [GIF Splitter](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-frames) and rebuild it with [Images to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/images-to-gif). To keep everything but make it shorter, use the [GIF Speed Changer](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer). And if you’re starting from a video, set the start and end points in [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) instead. ### Features - **Frame-accurate:** Choose exact frames, not approximate times. - **Side-by-side previews:** See the first and last kept frames at once. - **Live duration:** Know the new length before you export. - **Smaller files:** Fewer frames mean a lighter GIF. ### Key facts - Selection: First and last frame to keep - Timing: Unchanged inside the range - Shows: Frame numbers and timestamps - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I trim a GIF?** Upload it to the GIF Trimmer, move the Start and End sliders to the frames you want to keep, then click Trim GIF. **Can I cut out a section from the middle?** The trimmer keeps one continuous range. To remove a middle section, split the GIF into frames and rebuild it without the unwanted ones. **Does trimming change the speed?** No. Frames inside the kept range keep their original delays. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Speed Changer URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer Category: Edit GIFs The GIF Speed Changer makes an animated GIF play faster or slower by rewriting each frame’s delay — from a quarter speed (0.25×) up to four times faster (4×). Because browsers slow down frames shorter than 20 ms, very fast settings drop frames instead so the requested speed is actually what you see. ### How to use GIF Speed Changer 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to speed up or slow down. 2. **Pick a speed** — Drag the speed slider, tap a preset or set a fixed frame delay. 3. **Apply and download** — Click Change speed and download the new GIF. ### The 20 ms rule GIF stores delays in hundredths of a second. Browsers treat any delay under 20 ms (2 hundredths) as “too fast” and slow it to 100 ms — a 0 ms or 10 ms GIF actually plays at 10 fps. That’s why naïvely halving delays can make a GIF play **slower**. This tool never writes delays below 20 ms; when you ask for more speed than that allows, it drops frames instead, so the visible speed matches your setting. You can check any GIF’s real timing with the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester), and repair GIFs that are stuck too fast or too slow with [Fix GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/fix-gif). ### Speed, length and file size Speeding up shortens the GIF; when frames are dropped the file shrinks too. Slowing down keeps all frames, so the size stays about the same while the duration grows. To shorten without changing speed, [trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) instead. For rhythmic effects, try a [boomerang](https://www.gifrush.com/reverse-gif) or set loop counts with the [GIF Looper](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-looper). ### Features - **0.25× to 4×:** Fine control from slow-motion to fast-forward. - **Fixed delay mode:** Give every frame the same delay for an even rhythm. - **Real-world playback:** Respects the 20 ms floor browsers enforce, so fast GIFs stay fast. - **Live duration:** See the old and new total length before you export. ### Key facts - Speed range: 0.25× – 4× - Fixed delay: 20 ms – 2 s per frame - Minimum frame delay: 20 ms (browser limit) - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make a GIF faster?** Upload the GIF, move the speed slider above 1× (for example 2× for double speed) and click Change speed. Download the faster GIF when it’s ready. **Why does my GIF play slower than its frame delay says?** Browsers treat GIF frame delays under 20 ms (often 10 ms or 0 ms) as 100 ms, which makes “too fast” GIFs play slowly. This tool keeps delays at 20 ms or more and drops frames when you ask for more speed. **What is a GIF frame delay?** Each GIF frame stores how long to show it, in hundredths of a second. A delay of 100 ms equals 10 frames per second; 50 ms equals 20 fps. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Reverse GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/reverse-gif Category: Edit GIFs Reverse GIF plays an animated GIF backwards by flipping the order of its frames while keeping each frame’s delay. Boomerang mode plays the GIF forwards and then backwards for a seamless ping-pong loop, without repeating the frames where it turns around. ### How to use Reverse GIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to flip. 2. **Choose a mode** — Reverse plays it backwards; Boomerang plays forward then back. 3. **Export** — Click Reverse GIF and download the result. ### Why boomerangs loop so well A normal GIF loop jumps from the last frame back to the first, which is jarring unless the motion happens to end where it began. A boomerang never jumps: it plays forward, then retraces its steps, so the loop is seamless by construction. It’s a quick way to make phone clips, product shots and reactions feel polished. Because a boomerang contains roughly twice as many frames, it’s about twice the size. [Trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) the source to the essential motion first, and [compress](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) the result if needed. ### Reverse vs rotate vs flip Reversing changes the direction of **time**. To turn the picture upside down or mirror it, use [Rotate GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/rotate-gif). To change tempo, use the [GIF Speed Changer](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer); to make a boomerang into a phone wallpaper, see [GIF to Live Photo](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-live-photo). ### Features - **True reverse:** Frames are reordered with their original timing. - **Seamless boomerang:** Turnaround frames aren’t doubled, so the loop doesn’t stutter. - **Transparency kept:** Transparent GIFs stay transparent. - **No quality loss:** Frames are re-encoded with their own palettes. ### Key facts - Modes: Reverse, Boomerang (ping-pong) - Timing: Original frame delays kept - Boomerang length: About 2× the original - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I reverse a GIF?** Upload it to Reverse GIF, keep the mode on Reverse and click Reverse GIF. The frames are put in the opposite order and you can download the backwards GIF straight away. **What is a boomerang GIF?** A boomerang plays a clip forwards and then backwards in a continuous loop. It makes almost any short clip loop seamlessly. **Will a boomerang GIF be bigger?** Yes, roughly twice the size, because it contains the forward frames plus the reversed frames. Use Compress GIF afterwards if you need it smaller. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Looper URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-looper Category: Edit GIFs The GIF Looper sets how many times an animated GIF plays: forever, a specific number of times (2–20), or just once. It writes the standard NETSCAPE2.0 loop setting that browsers and apps read, can also repeat the frames inside the file for apps that ignore loop settings, and can add a pause of up to 5 seconds before the animation restarts. ### How to use GIF Looper 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF that stops too soon (or loops too much). 2. **Choose loop behaviour** — Forever, a number of plays or once; optionally repeat frames and add an end pause. 3. **Apply** — Click Apply loop settings and download. ### How GIF looping works Looping isn’t part of the original GIF specification. It was added by Netscape Navigator 2.0 as an application extension block containing a repeat count: **0 means loop forever**, and a missing block means the GIF plays once. That’s why some GIFs stop after one play — the block is simply absent. This tool writes the block for you. Viewers interpret finite counts slightly differently: most treat the number as extra repeats after the first play. If an exact number of plays matters, “Repeat inside the file” bakes the repetitions into the frames themselves, which behaves identically everywhere. You can see a GIF’s current loop setting with the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester). ### Seamless loops A loop that restarts abruptly looks like a glitch. Try [trimming](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) to a natural cycle, making a [boomerang](https://www.gifrush.com/reverse-gif), or adding a short end pause here so the restart feels intentional. GIFs damaged by other tools — wrong speed, missing loop, cut-off ending — can be repaired in one go with [Fix GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/fix-gif). ### Features - **Standard loop setting:** Writes the NETSCAPE2.0 block every GIF viewer understands. - **Bake in repeats:** Duplicates the frames for apps that ignore loop counts. - **End pause:** Hold the last frame up to 5 s before restarting. - **Play once:** Removes looping for intros and one-shot animations. ### Key facts - Loop options: Forever, 2–20 plays, once - Stored as: NETSCAPE2.0 application extension - Repeat inside file: Up to 10× - End pause: 0–5 seconds - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make a GIF loop forever?** Upload the GIF, keep Loop set to Forever and click Apply loop settings. The GIF is saved with a loop count of 0, which means infinite looping. **Why does my GIF only play once?** It’s missing the NETSCAPE2.0 loop block that tells viewers to repeat. Re-saving it here with Loop set to Forever fixes it. **Can I make a GIF stop looping?** Yes. Choose “Play once” to remove looping, or set a number of plays so it stops after a few repetitions. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Add Text to GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif Category: Edit GIFs Add Text to GIF writes captions onto every frame of an animated GIF — classic meme-style top and bottom text with a bold outline. Pick the text size, fill and outline colours, see a live preview on the first frame, and export. Long captions wrap automatically to fit the width. ### How to use Add Text to GIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to caption. 2. **Write your caption** — Type top and/or bottom text and style it — the preview updates live. 3. **Export** — Click Add text and download your captioned GIF. ### Writing captions that read well Short captions work best: GIFs loop quickly and viewers often see them small in a chat. Keep it to one line per position where possible, use uppercase for the classic meme look, and keep the outline on — white text with a black outline is readable on any background. Size 10–14% of the GIF height suits most reaction GIFs. If the subject’s face sits where the caption goes, [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif) or [resize](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) to make room, or caption only the bottom. ### Making a meme GIF from scratch Start from a clip with [Video to GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/video-to-gif) (or [record your screen](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder)), [trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) it to the punchline, caption it here, then [compress](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) it so it uploads anywhere. For extra flair, add a [filter](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-filters) or a [rainbow effect](https://www.gifrush.com/rainbow-gif). ### Features - **Top and bottom text:** Classic meme layout with automatic line wrapping. - **Bold outline:** A thick outline keeps captions readable on any background. - **Live preview:** See exactly how the caption sits before exporting. - **Any colour:** Pick fill and outline colours, uppercase on or off. ### Key facts - Text positions: Top and bottom - Text size: 5–25% of the GIF height - Applies to: Every frame - Output: Animated GIF, no watermark - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I add text to a GIF?** Upload your GIF to Add Text to GIF, type your top or bottom caption, adjust size and colours while watching the live preview, then click Add text and download the result. **What font do meme GIFs use?** Classic memes use Impact — white, all caps, with a black outline. This tool uses Impact where your device has it and falls back to a similar heavy sans-serif font. **Can I add text to only part of the GIF?** Captions appear on every frame for the whole animation. To caption only a section, trim the GIF first. --- ## Static GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/static-gif Category: Edit GIFs Static GIF freezes an animated GIF on a single frame and saves it as a one-frame, non-animated GIF. Use the slider to pick exactly which frame to keep — the first, the last or any moment in between. The result stays a .gif, so it works anywhere a GIF is required but never moves. ### How to use Static GIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the animated GIF. 2. **Choose a frame** — Slide to the frame you want to freeze on. 3. **Save** — Click Make static GIF and download. ### When a non-moving GIF is useful Some places require a GIF but shouldn’t move: email signatures, forum avatars with animation rules, print layouts, or thumbnails. Static versions also help accessibility — WCAG asks that moving content lasting more than five seconds can be paused, and offering a still alternative is a simple way to respect people who are sensitive to motion. If you just need to stop a GIF temporarily to look at a frame, use [Pause GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/pause-gif), which plays, pauses and steps through any GIF without changing the file. ### GIF or PNG for a still? For most uses a still is better as PNG: identical pixels, broader editing support, and often a smaller file — see [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png). For icons, use [GIF to ICO](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-ico). Keep it a GIF only when the destination specifically demands the .gif format. ### Features - **Any frame:** Not stuck with the first frame — choose the best moment. - **Still a GIF:** Same format, so it fits GIF-only uploads. - **Tiny file:** One frame weighs far less than the animation. - **Accessibility:** Provide a non-moving version for motion-sensitive viewers. ### Key facts - Output: Single-frame GIF - Frame choice: Any frame, with preview - Loops: None (doesn’t animate) - Typical size: A fraction of the original - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make a GIF not move?** Upload it to Static GIF, choose the frame you want to keep and click Make static GIF. The result is a single-frame GIF that doesn’t animate. **Can I pick which frame to freeze?** Yes. Use the slider to preview and choose any frame from the animation. **Is a static GIF better than a PNG?** Only when a GIF is required. Otherwise PNG is usually the better format for still images. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Rainbow GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/rainbow-gif Category: GIF effects Rainbow GIF adds a cycling rainbow colour effect to a GIF or still image. Hue cycle rotates every colour around the colour wheel — best for colourful images — while Rainbow tint washes the image in one shifting colour, keeping its light and dark tones — best for black, white or grey images like logos and emoji. Stills are turned into a looping animation automatically. ### How to use Rainbow GIF 1. **Upload a GIF or image** — Drop a GIF, PNG, JPG or WebP — emoji and logos work great. 2. **Choose the effect** — Hue cycle or Rainbow tint, number of cycles and (for stills) frames and speed. 3. **Rainbowify** — Click Rainbowify and download the looping GIF. ### Hue cycle vs rainbow tint **Hue cycle** rotates each pixel’s hue around the colour wheel, so reds become oranges, then yellows, greens and so on, while saturation and brightness stay the same. It looks great on colourful artwork but does nothing to black, white or grey pixels — they have no hue to rotate. **Rainbow tint** solves that: it measures each pixel’s lightness and paints it with the current rainbow colour, so monochrome logos and emoji light up too. Because the colour completes whole trips around the wheel, the last frame flows straight back into the first: the loop is seamless at any number of cycles. ### Making party emoji Custom emoji should be small. Start with a square image, rainbowify it, then [resize to 128×128](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) and check the size — Discord emoji must be under 256 KB, and the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) can help. Combine with [GIF filters](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-filters) for other colour looks, or [remove a background](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-background-remover) first so only the subject changes colour. ### Features - **Two rainbow styles:** Shift every colour, or tint by luminance. - **Animates stills:** A single image becomes an 8–48 frame colour loop. - **Seamless loops:** Colours complete whole cycles, so the loop never jumps. - **Transparency kept:** Perfect for Slack and Discord “party” emoji. ### Key facts - Effects: Hue cycle, Rainbow tint - Cycles: 1–6 per loop - Generated frames (stills): 8–48 - Input: GIF, PNG, JPG, WebP - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make a rainbow GIF?** Upload a GIF or image, choose Hue cycle or Rainbow tint, set the number of colour cycles and click Rainbowify. **Why doesn’t my black-and-white image change colour?** Hue cycle can’t colour grey pixels because they have no hue. Switch to Rainbow tint, which colours by brightness. **Can I rainbowify a still image?** Yes. Still images are turned into a looping animation; choose how many frames and how fast the colours change. --- ## GIF Filters URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-filters Category: GIF effects GIF Filters applies a colour filter to every frame of an animated GIF — Grayscale, Sepia, Vintage, Noir, Faded, Warm, Cool, Vivid or Invert — and lets you fine-tune brightness, contrast, saturation and hue on top. A live preview shows the result on the first frame, and the animation’s timing is untouched. ### How to use GIF Filters 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop a GIF (or a PNG/JPG/WebP). 2. **Pick a filter** — Choose a preset, then adjust brightness, contrast, saturation and hue. 3. **Apply** — Click Apply filter and download. ### Filters can make GIFs smaller A grayscale GIF needs only shades of grey, so each frame’s 256-colour palette goes much further — gradients look smoother and files often shrink. Faded and Noir looks reduce colour variety too. Vivid and Warm push colours apart, which can increase banding on photographic content; pair them with moderate sizes. All filters are applied as a colour matrix to each pixel, which keeps the effect identical on every frame — no flicker between frames. ### More creative effects For animated colour changes, try [Rainbow GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/rainbow-gif). To hide or soften part of the image, use [Blur GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/blur-gif). To replace a background, use the [GIF background remover](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-background-remover), and to label the result, [add text](https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif). ### Features - **10 presets:** From classic black & white to faded film looks. - **Fine adjustments:** Brightness, contrast, saturation and hue sliders. - **Live preview:** See changes instantly before exporting. - **Every frame:** The filter is applied consistently across the animation. ### Key facts - Presets: Grayscale, Sepia, Vintage, Noir, Faded, Warm, Cool, Vivid, Invert - Brightness / contrast: 50–150% - Saturation: 0–200% - Hue shift: −180° to 180° - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make a GIF black and white?** Upload the GIF, choose the Grayscale (or Noir) filter and click Apply filter. **Can I adjust brightness and contrast of a GIF?** Yes. Use the Brightness and Contrast sliders on their own (with the Original preset) or on top of any filter. **Do filters affect the animation speed?** No. Only colours change; every frame keeps its original timing. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Blur GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/blur-gif Category: GIF effects Blur GIF applies a smooth blur or a pixelate (mosaic) effect to an animated GIF — either the whole image or just a rectangle you drag on the preview, such as a face, name, licence plate or email address. The effect is applied to the same area on every frame, with strength from 2 to 60 pixels, entirely in your browser. ### How to use Blur GIF 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop a GIF (or still image). 2. **Select and style** — Choose Blur or Pixelate, whole GIF or selected area, and the strength. 3. **Apply** — Click Blur GIF and download. ### Hiding sensitive information properly For privacy, strength matters: a light blur on large text can still be readable. Use a strength of at least 15–20 px for text, or pixelate with large blocks. Remember the area is fixed — if the thing you’re hiding moves across the GIF, draw the box large enough to cover its whole path, or [trim](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) to the part where it stays put. Because processing happens on your device, the unblurred original is never sent anywhere — important when the GIF contains screen recordings of emails, dashboards or documents made with the [GIF Recorder](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-recorder). ### Creative blur Blurring the whole GIF lightly creates a dreamy background for text overlays — blur, then [add text](https://www.gifrush.com/add-text-to-gif). To remove distractions at the edges instead, [crop](https://www.gifrush.com/crop-gif). For colour effects, see [GIF Filters](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-filters). ### Features - **Area selection:** Drag a box to target exactly what to hide. - **Two effects:** Soft Gaussian-style blur or blocky pixelation. - **Every frame:** The same region is covered throughout the animation. - **Never uploaded:** Sensitive content stays on your device. ### Key facts - Effects: Blur (3-pass box), Pixelate - Strength: 2–60 px - Areas: Whole GIF or one rectangle - Output: Animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I blur part of a GIF?** Upload the GIF, keep “Selected area” on, drag a box over the part to hide, set the strength and click Blur GIF. **Can I pixelate a face in a GIF?** Yes. Choose Pixelate, select the face and pick a block size large enough that it can’t be recognised. **Does the blur follow moving objects?** No. The same rectangle is covered on every frame, so make it large enough to cover the object’s whole movement. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Background Remover URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-background-remover Category: GIF effects The GIF Background Remover makes a GIF’s background transparent (or replaces it with a new colour) on every frame. It auto-detects the background colour from the image border — or you click to pick it — and removes matching pixels within an adjustable tolerance, either only where they connect to the edge (protecting the subject) or everywhere. It works best on solid or near-solid backgrounds such as green screens, studio white and flat colours. ### How to use GIF Background Remover 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop a GIF (or still image) with a plain background. 2. **Tune the removal** — Check the auto-detected colour or click the background; adjust tolerance. 3. **Remove** — Click Remove background and download the transparent GIF. ### How the background is removed This is a colour-key remover: it compares each pixel with the background colour and clears those within the tolerance. In **Outer background** mode it starts from the image border and spreads only through connected matching pixels — so a white shirt on a white background survives if it isn’t touching the edge. **Colour everywhere** removes every matching pixel, which is right for holes and gaps between letters, or a green screen visible through the subject. Raise tolerance if a fringe of the old background remains; lower it if parts of your subject disappear. Complex photographic backgrounds (rooms, landscapes) need AI segmentation and won’t key cleanly here. ### Transparent GIF tips GIF transparency is on/off — there are no semi-transparent pixels — so anti-aliased edges keep a thin halo of the old colour. Removing a background close to the colour of the page where the GIF will appear hides that halo. For stickers, follow up with [Resize GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) to 512 px; to place the cut-out on a new scene, replace the background with a colour here, or [combine](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-combiner) it with other GIFs. ### Features - **Auto-detect:** Finds the most common border colour automatically. - **Click to pick:** Tap any background pixel to use its colour. - **Edge-connected mode:** Removes only background touching the border, keeping matching colours inside the subject. - **Replace colour:** Swap the background for any solid colour instead of transparency. ### Key facts - Method: Colour key with flood fill or global match - Best for: Solid, flat or green-screen backgrounds - Tolerance: 0–120 - Transparency: 1-bit (GIF limit) - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I make a GIF background transparent?** Upload the GIF, check that the detected background colour is right (or click the background to pick it), adjust the tolerance and click Remove background. **Can it remove complex backgrounds?** It works best on solid or near-solid backgrounds such as green screens and flat colours. Busy, photographic backgrounds won’t be removed cleanly. **Why is there a thin outline around my subject?** GIF can’t store partial transparency, so blended edge pixels keep some of the old background colour. Increase tolerance slightly or choose a replacement colour close to where the GIF will be shown. --- ## GIF Compressor URL: https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif Category: Optimize & inspect The GIF Compressor reduces the file size of an animated GIF by combining four techniques: smaller colour palettes, lossy frame diffing that reuses near-identical pixels, dropping every second or third frame, and scaling down. Pick a preset or tune each setting, then compare the original and compressed sizes before downloading. ### How to use GIF Compressor 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop the GIF you want to shrink. 2. **Pick a level** — Choose Light, Balanced or Strong — or fine-tune colours, frames and scale. 3. **Compress and compare** — See how much was saved, then download the smaller GIF. ### What actually makes a GIF big GIF size is driven by **pixels × frames × change**. A 480×270 GIF with 100 frames holds 13 million pixels of image data; LZW compression shrinks runs of identical pixels but can’t do much with noise, film grain or dithering. Frame diffing helps a lot: when only part of the picture moves, only those pixels need storing. Lossy diffing goes further by treating “almost the same” pixels as unchanged. Presets combine these levers: **Light** (256 colours, tiny lossiness) is visually transparent; **Balanced** (128 colours) suits most GIFs; **Strong** (64 colours, every 2nd frame, 75% scale) targets hard limits such as Discord’s 10 MB uploads. Some GIFs are already heavily optimised — then only [resizing](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) or [trimming](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-trimmer) brings big gains. ### When to stop compressing and switch format If a GIF is still too large after Strong compression, the format itself is the bottleneck. Where video is allowed, [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) is typically 5–10× smaller at better quality. Where a still image will do, [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png) or [GIF to AVIF](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-avif) are much smaller. Check any GIF’s platform limits with the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester). ### Features - **Lossy frame diffing:** Pixels that barely change are reused from the previous frame. - **Palette reduction:** From 256 down to 16 colours per frame. - **Frame dropping:** Keep every 2nd or 3rd frame while preserving total duration. - **Before/after size:** See the exact percentage saved before you download. ### Key facts - Typical saving: 30–80% depending on the GIF - Colours: 16–256 per frame - Frame dropping: Keep all, every 2nd or every 3rd - Scale: 25–100% - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I reduce the size of a GIF?** The biggest savings come from making it smaller (scale), shorter, or less detailed. In the GIF Compressor, start with the Balanced preset; if it’s still too big, drop frames or scale to 75%. **How do I get a GIF under 10 MB for Discord?** Use the Strong preset, which scales to 75%, keeps every second frame and uses 64 colours. If the GIF is still too large, lower the scale further or shorten the clip. **Does compressing a GIF lower its quality?** Lossy settings trade a little quality for size. Light compression is usually invisible; Strong compression can show banding or slightly choppier motion. **Why did my GIF barely get smaller?** Some GIFs are already heavily optimised. In that case, reducing the dimensions or the number of frames is the only way to make a big difference. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Fix GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/fix-gif Category: Optimize & inspect Fix GIF scans a GIF’s internal structure, reports what’s wrong and rebuilds a clean copy. It recovers every complete frame from truncated or partly corrupted files, corrects 0–10 ms frame delays that make GIFs play at the wrong speed, adds the missing loop setting that makes GIFs stop after one play, and clips frames that spill outside the canvas. ### How to use Fix GIF 1. **Upload the broken GIF** — Drop the GIF that won’t open, plays wrongly or stops. 2. **Review the diagnosis** — See exactly what was found, then choose which fixes to apply. 3. **Fix** — Click Fix GIF and download the repaired file. ### Why GIFs break The most common problems are **interrupted downloads** (the file ends mid-frame, so some apps refuse to open it), **zero-delay frames** (browsers play them at 100 ms, other apps as fast as possible — so the same GIF runs at different speeds in different places), and a **missing loop block**, which makes the GIF play once and stop. Older tools also write frames larger than the GIF’s canvas, which strict viewers reject. Fix GIF reads the file block by block with a tolerant parser, keeps everything that is intact and writes a brand-new GIF with a valid structure. Use the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester) to inspect a GIF without changing it. ### Related fixes If the GIF is fine but too slow or fast, use the [GIF Speed Changer](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-speed-changer). For loop counts and end pauses, the [GIF Looper](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-looper) offers more options. If it’s simply too big to upload, the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) is the right tool. ### Features - **Recovers truncated files:** Keeps every complete frame and closes the file properly. - **Fixes timing:** Replaces 0–10 ms delays with a delay you choose. - **Restores looping:** Adds the NETSCAPE2.0 loop block. - **Clean rebuild:** Fresh palettes, valid structure, proper trailer. ### Key facts - Detects: Truncation, bad blocks, 0 ms delays, missing loop, oversize frames - Recovery: All complete frames - Default fast-frame fix: 100 ms (matches browsers) - Output: Clean animated GIF - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I fix a corrupted GIF?** Upload it to Fix GIF. The tool recovers all complete frames, repairs the structure and lets you download a clean copy. **Why does my GIF play too fast or too slow?** Frames with a 0 or 10 ms delay are slowed to 100 ms by browsers but played instantly by some apps. Fix GIF sets those frames to a consistent delay you choose. **Why does my GIF stop after one play?** It lacks the NETSCAPE2.0 loop setting. Fix GIF adds it so the GIF loops forever. **Can every broken GIF be recovered?** Frames that were completely written can be recovered. Frames cut off mid-way are lost, because their pixel data is incomplete. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## GIF Tester URL: https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester Category: Optimize & inspect The GIF Tester reads a GIF’s internal structure and reports everything about it: GIF87a/89a version, dimensions, frame count, every frame’s stored delay and the delay browsers actually use, total duration and average fps, loop setting, global and local palettes, transparency, interlacing and comments. It then runs checks — damaged file, missing loop, too-fast frames, oversized dimensions — and compares the size with common platform limits. ### How to use GIF Tester 1. **Upload a GIF** — Drop any GIF — it’s read, not changed. 2. **Read the report** — Summary, pass/warning checks and a frame-by-frame table. 3. **Fix what’s flagged** — Follow the links to the right tool for each issue. ### Reading the report **Delay (stored)** is what the file says; **Plays as** is what browsers do — delays under 20 ms become 100 ms. **Disposal** tells the viewer what to do with a frame before drawing the next: keep it, clear it to the background, or restore the previous image; optimised GIFs mix these with partial-frame regions. **Local palettes** mean frames carry their own colours, which improves quality at a small size cost. Warnings link straight to the fix: [Fix GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/fix-gif) for damage and timing, the [GIF Looper](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-looper) for loop settings, the [GIF Resizer](https://www.gifrush.com/resize-gif) for huge dimensions and the [GIF compressor](https://www.gifrush.com/compress-gif) for size limits. ### Watching the animation frame by frame The tester describes the GIF; to watch it closely, open it in [Pause GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/pause-gif), which plays, pauses, steps frame by frame and changes playback speed. To export the frames themselves, use the [GIF Splitter](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-frames). ### Features - **Real playback timing:** Shows stored delays and how browsers actually play them. - **Structure checks:** Detects truncation, missing loops and out-of-bounds frames. - **Platform limits:** Discord emoji and uploads, X (Twitter) GIF size. - **Read-only:** Your file isn’t modified or uploaded. ### Key facts - Reports: Version, size, frames, delays, loop, palettes, disposal - Checks: Integrity, loop, timing, dimensions, size limits - Damaged files: Read up to the first broken block - Modifies file: No - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How can I check how many frames a GIF has?** Drop it into the GIF Tester. The summary shows the frame count, duration and average fps, and the table lists every frame. **How do I know if a GIF loops?** The Loop row shows “Forever”, a number of repeats, or “Not set (plays once)” when the GIF has no loop setting. **Is my GIF too big for Discord?** The tester checks the file against Discord’s 256 KB emoji limit and 10 MB free upload limit, and X’s 15 MB GIF limit. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them. --- ## Pause GIF URL: https://www.gifrush.com/pause-gif Category: Optimize & inspect Pause GIF is an online GIF player with the controls GIFs normally lack: play and pause, step one frame forward or back, scrub to any point with a slider, and play at 0.25×–2× speed. The current frame number and timestamp are always shown, and you can save the paused frame as a lossless PNG. Keyboard: Space plays/pauses, arrow keys step. ### How to use Pause GIF 1. **Open a GIF** — Drop the GIF; it starts playing. 2. **Pause and step** — Pause, step frame by frame, scrub or change playback speed. 3. **Save a frame** — Click Save this frame (PNG) to keep the moment. ### Why you can’t pause a GIF in the browser Browsers play GIFs automatically and offer no controls: an image element has no pause button. This player decodes the GIF into frames and plays them itself, honouring each frame’s delay, so it can stop, step and slow down. That’s useful for reading text that flashes by, studying motion in tutorials and sports clips, checking animation timing, or finding the perfect freeze frame. If you need a GIF that’s **permanently** paused, save the frame and use [Static GIF](https://www.gifrush.com/static-gif) (still a .gif) or [GIF to PNG](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-png). ### Accessibility and motion Accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.2.2) ask that moving content lasting more than five seconds can be paused. If you publish GIFs, consider offering a still version or a video with controls — [GIF to MP4](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-to-mp4) gives viewers a standard play/pause button. To inspect timing data rather than watch, use the [GIF Tester](https://www.gifrush.com/gif-tester). ### Features - **Real pause:** Stop on any frame — browsers can’t pause GIFs natively. - **Frame stepping:** Move one frame at a time with buttons or arrow keys. - **Slow motion:** 0.25× and 0.5× playback for fast animations. - **Save frame as PNG:** Grab the exact frame you paused on. ### Key facts - Controls: Play/pause, prev/next, scrubber, speed - Speeds: 0.25×, 0.5×, 1×, 1.5×, 2× - Keyboard: Space, ← / → - Changes the file: No — viewing only - Price: Free, no account needed - Privacy: Processed on the user's device; files are never uploaded ### FAQ **How do I pause a GIF?** Open the GIF in Pause GIF and press Pause (or the Space bar). Use the arrow keys or Prev/Next buttons to move one frame at a time. **Can I slow a GIF down to see it better?** Yes. Set playback speed to 0.5× or 0.25×. This only affects viewing; to save a slower GIF use the GIF Speed Changer. **How do I save the frame I paused on?** Click “Save this frame (PNG)” to download the current frame as a lossless PNG image. **Are my files uploaded to a server?** No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them.
