Add music to a GIF

Add Music to GIF combines an animated GIF with an audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG) and produces an MP4 video where the GIF loops for the length of the song — or for a set number of loops. GIF files can’t contain sound, so the result is a video, encoded in your browser with H.264 video and AAC audio (Opus where AAC isn’t available).

Can a GIF have sound?

No — GIF is purely an image format with no way to store audio. Anything described as a “GIF with sound” online is actually a short video. This tool makes that video properly: the GIF’s frames are encoded with their original timing, looped as needed, and muxed together with your audio into a standard MP4.

For social media, a loop length that matches the beat looks deliberate: use the loop-count option and adjust the GIF’s tempo first with the GIF Speed Changer. Without audio, GIF to MP4 is the faster route.

Choosing and trimming audio

Use “Start the audio at” to skip intros and land on the hook. “Whole song” keeps the full track (up to 10 minutes); “Number of loops” makes a short clip by trimming the audio to the GIF’s length × loops. Only use music you have the rights to share. If you need an Apple-friendly file for editing, convert with GIF to MOV and add sound in your editor.

Add Music to GIF FAQ

How do I add music to a GIF?

Upload the GIF, add an audio file, choose where the audio starts and how long the video should be, then click Create video with music to download an MP4.

Why is the result an MP4 and not a GIF?

The GIF format cannot store audio. A GIF with music is always a video file, so the tool creates an MP4.

Which audio formats work?

Anything your browser can decode — MP3, M4A/AAC, WAV and OGG work in all modern browsers; FLAC works in most.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

It is completely free with no sign-up, no usage limits and no watermark on the output.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them.
