Tips for crisp screen-recording GIFs
Screen recordings compress extremely well as GIFs because most of the screen stays still, and our encoder only stores the pixels that change between frames. To keep them sharp, record a single window or tab rather than the whole screen, close notifications, and use 8–12 fps — UI movements still look smooth at that rate.
Afterwards you can crop to the area that matters, trim the start and end, and add a caption or blur any private information such as email addresses before sharing.
Privacy and browser support
Recording uses the browser’s standard screen-capture and camera permissions: nothing is captured until you approve the prompt, and the browser shows an indicator while recording. The video never leaves your device — frames are turned into a GIF locally and discarded when you close the page.
Screen recording works in desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Mobile browsers generally only allow the webcam. If you already have a recording as a video file, convert it with Video to GIF or the Long GIF Maker instead.
