Apply filters to a GIF

GIF Filters applies a colour filter to every frame of an animated GIF — Grayscale, Sepia, Vintage, Noir, Faded, Warm, Cool, Vivid or Invert — and lets you fine-tune brightness, contrast, saturation and hue on top. A live preview shows the result on the first frame, and the animation’s timing is untouched.

Filters can make GIFs smaller

A grayscale GIF needs only shades of grey, so each frame’s 256-colour palette goes much further — gradients look smoother and files often shrink. Faded and Noir looks reduce colour variety too. Vivid and Warm push colours apart, which can increase banding on photographic content; pair them with moderate sizes.

All filters are applied as a colour matrix to each pixel, which keeps the effect identical on every frame — no flicker between frames.

More creative effects

For animated colour changes, try Rainbow GIF. To hide or soften part of the image, use Blur GIF. To replace a background, use the GIF background remover, and to label the result, add text.

GIF Filters FAQ

How do I make a GIF black and white?

Upload the GIF, choose the Grayscale (or Noir) filter and click Apply filter.

Can I adjust brightness and contrast of a GIF?

Yes. Use the Brightness and Contrast sliders on their own (with the Original preset) or on top of any filter.

Do filters affect the animation speed?

No. Only colours change; every frame keeps its original timing.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. GifRush processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript, Canvas, Web Workers and WebCodecs. Your files never leave your device, and closing the tab discards them.
