GIF to PNG vs GIF to APNG
A standard PNG is a single still image, so converting an animated GIF to PNG means choosing one frame. That’s ideal for thumbnails, poster frames, documentation screenshots or editing a frame in Photoshop. If you want to keep the animation in PNG form, use GIF to APNG — APNG is the animated extension of PNG supported by all modern browsers.
Because PNG is lossless and GIF already has at most 256 colours, nothing is lost in the conversion; the PNG may even be smaller when the frame is mostly flat colour.
Finding the perfect frame
Reaction GIFs and fast animations can be hard to freeze at the right moment. Scrub through frame by frame with the slider here, or use Pause GIF for play/pause controls at reduced speed. To keep the result as a GIF that simply doesn’t move, use Static GIF. For all frames with timing info, see the GIF Splitter.
