Hue cycle vs rainbow tint
Hue cycle rotates each pixel’s hue around the colour wheel, so reds become oranges, then yellows, greens and so on, while saturation and brightness stay the same. It looks great on colourful artwork but does nothing to black, white or grey pixels — they have no hue to rotate. Rainbow tint solves that: it measures each pixel’s lightness and paints it with the current rainbow colour, so monochrome logos and emoji light up too.
Because the colour completes whole trips around the wheel, the last frame flows straight back into the first: the loop is seamless at any number of cycles.
Making party emoji
Custom emoji should be small. Start with a square image, rainbowify it, then resize to 128×128 and check the size — Discord emoji must be under 256 KB, and the GIF compressor can help. Combine with GIF filters for other colour looks, or remove a background first so only the subject changes colour.
